Kings hold off Nordiques comeback for the win

The Storm Kings first line was dominant. Sean Coakley had a banner night factoring into each of the King's 8 goals with 6 goals and 2 assists. Ryan Sinclair was the playmaker of the night with 7 assists. Dean Cashman had 2 goals and 1 assist to round out the first line's scoring. Nordiques goalie John Turner called for a win and came up short. The Kings were the first team to light the lamp as Sean Coakley scored an uncanny goal. Ryan Sinclair fresh off of a wrap-around chance on Turner decided to flip a pass as he went around the back of the net. The airborn puck was knocked out ot mid air from a streaking Coakley into the top corner past a shocked Turner and a surprised Nordiques bench. The goal lit an offensive fire under the Kings as they went on to score 5 first period goals. Storm Kings goalie Dan French said that he knew it was going to be good night when Coakley cashed in. The Kings continued to roll as Dean Cashman tipped home a goal on the doorstep on a pass-across-the-crease feed from Coakley at 13:18. Will Meyer gave the Nordiques some life with a 90ft hard wrister through a screen that beat French with 6:54 remaining in the first. Cashman sent a long cross ice pass through the neutral zone giving Sinclair a breakaway chance on Turner. He couldn't find an opening faking a shot which forced Turner to drop down. Sinclair raced around the net to stuff one into the empty net. Turner scrambled across just in time to make the save. Coakley jammed in the rebound with 3:49 remaining. Then Coakley nailed a one-timer from the high slot from Sinclair at 2:34. The collapse continued as Coakley scored his fourth goal of the period with a hard shot that broke off of Turner's stick and into the net with on 0:53 left in the first. The first period woke up the Nordiques who actually won the second and third period by the score of 4-3. Unfortunately the Nords need to play 3 periods of hockey to beat the Storm Kings. The game certaiinly had some drama in the second as Turner stopped another breakway chance he left the rebound for Sinclair who jammed the puck under him. Although the puck crossed the goal line the refs had blown the whistle. No goal and a face-off in the Nordiques end. After some shouting the game resumed. The Nordiques fought hard and got back into the game with goals from Deanna McDevitt and Ian Cotes. Of course the Kings answered with two of their own. Another baseball like mid-air redirection by Cashman from Sinclair and Coakly at 6:42 and a nifty breakaway backhander by Coakley from Sinc. Will Meyer nailed a pass from Coates and Tom Dakai with only 42 seconds left in the period. Both teams traded chances and goals in the third. Dan French held on for his 9th win of the season and is 9-1 in 10 games.
