Welcome to the playoffs men, first up, Maple Leafs @ Nordiques. The nordiques closed out the season with a ginormous shootout win over the Brewers to take the 3rd seed in the playoffs and take on the last placed Maple Leafs.
The Maple Leafs ended the season with a 7-2 loss to the Storm Kings who have owned them all season. The Leafs, despite finishing last, have garnered some serious respect around the league for their intense style of play, giant hearts and tenacious fore-checking. Anchored by captain & gate-keeper Kenny "La MVP" Lallier & team water boy, Sean "The Waterboy" Casavante, the Leafs are poised for a huge upset tonight over another "offensively" challenged club in the Nordiques.
The Nordiques have been as inconsistent as you could possibly get, with huge blowout wins, huge blowout losses, lack of scoring at times. They are backed by superstar goaltender Johnny "Back Fat" Turner, goal scorers Ian "The Coat" Coates & Roger "The Drill" Phillips, as well as the giant green Pilon, Shawn "McBuffalo Wings" McDermott. The Nords also host one of the most intimidating men in the UVHL as Tommy "The Rake" Dakai prowls the blue line like an unleashed doberman.
If the Leafs are to be successful, they need some production out of their top line, Dougie "Light-Weight" Heavisides, Joey "The Mute" Hayes & Johnny "Squirt" Thomas. Their defense has been drastically improved with the 6 foot 6 inch Chuck "The Lanky Lurker" Gaede, who has a wingspan like a Boeing 747. Kirt Johnson also probes the point, with a shot like a pre-pubecent girl.
This should be a good one, since the Leafs ALWAYS play the Nords tough. My prediction, The Leafs Lallier will turn away 35 shots in a 4-2 loss.
