Brewers continue dominance over the Nordiques 5-3

Hmmm...where do I start in this one? How about the facts? First off, the Brewers are 3-0 against the Nords so far this season. Second, the Nords have been dominated in both team defense, and in team offense. Third, the Brewers are just better right now and have seemed to have figured the Nords out. The Nords can't get through Bartline, can't prevent more goals than they score against the Brew Crew, and now it is getting to their heads. The one good thing is that the Nords have played much better against the Brewers, and this was a good hockey game. The Brewers were just better and deserved the win, but the level of play was much closer and it wasn't a total domination in terms of play, pace, puck control, or scoring chances. The Nords were down 4-1 and came back to force a tight 1-goal game. For a while they were the better team on the ice, and momentum clearly switched putting the Brewers on their heels. Kevin Dwyer scored two clutch goals during the comeback, but "turned the puck over 8 times at the Brewers blueline". Such was the sloppiness of the Nords play at times as basic fundamentals were ignored, but they kept fighting, and the Brew Crew didn't make it easy. Both goalies were solid, but the highest quality scoring chances were generated by the Brewers. Bartline just doesn't seem to get beat on many shots. JT fought hard to keep the Nords in it, and Kelly Park made a great play as the Nords were trying to tie the game and he stopped Bayley's empty net attempt just inside the blueline shutting his own gaping 5-hole with a skate save. Unfortunately, the puck bounced back to Bayley who carried it in for the empty netter just as the Nords thought new life had been breathed back into their game and chance to force a shootout. The Brewers scored a PPG, a fluke screen shot, an empty netter, a lucky chip shot on a great pass, and a point shot that found its way through a crowd and through JT's 5-hole. Verstaile scoring, opportunistic finishes, and effort is what gets the Brewers their goals. Sheer talent from Bayley is no longer the biggest difference as their team game has matured and their breakout and transition is second only to the Gamblers. The Nords solved Bartline when they went East-West, not by shooting, and showed that they can shut down any team and comeback when they put their minds to it and play Nords hockey taking care of their own end first. Final Analysis: The Brewers have been the better team so far this season, but the Nords are catching up against the team that has posed them the most difficulty in 2009-10. Both teams will battle with Tuck for second place and a first round bye in the playoffs. It wouldn't suprise me if any of these three mentioned teams meets the Gamblers in the final and the other two battle for the bronze. Don't forget to vote for the Long Trail Player of the Week! A case of beer is on the line, eh! Thanks to all for a great first half of the season, Kelly Park now takes the reigns for the remainder of the 2009-10 season. See you at Bentley's for post-game wings and a Bleu cheese bath! McD OUT!!!
