Storm Kings cruise into the playoffs with 13-4 thrashing of the Leafs
February 14th, Valentines day and the Kings weren't giving out flowers. Instead of a dozen roses they handed the Leafs a bakers dozen in the form of goals. Both teams had shorten benches which in this case favored the Kings. Sean Coakley was feeling particularly generous in tallying 9 points with 5 goals and 4 helpers. His performance locked up the 2005-2006 scoring title. In 11 games Coakley amassed 39 goals, 24 assists for a total of 63 points. His staggering 5.73 points/game eclipsed his next closest rival, Will Meyer who in 15 games had 29 goals and 23 assists for 52 points. The first period action was accented by Coakley's strong performance piling in 3 goals and an assist. He started the scoring only 0:37 seconds into the contest with a laser on-timer from Park at 14:23. He scored again a mere 0:12 seconds later. When the Kings get rolling early they are hard to keep up with. The Leaf's lone goal of the first was an unassisted mark by Doug Heavisides at 9:11. The period ended with the Kings leading 5-1. The second period saw the Kings domination continue as they scored 5 unanswered goals. Defensemen John Murphy also had a huge 8 point night as he recorded a hattrick and 5 assists. The third period was an even affair as each team traded three goals. With the win the Storm Kings ended their innugural season with 12 wins, 2 losses and a first round playoff bye. The Leafs will face off against the third place Bruins tonight at Union Arena at 8:00pm.
