Week 3 has the undefeated Nordiques(2-0-0) hosting the journeymen Gamblers(0-1-1) in the 8:05pm time slot. The Gamblers are looking for a direction to head in and ultimately find out what type of team they are. They are a mix of Old & New, Chaos & Harmony, Agility & ........um......I guess Scotty Fraser would be the opposite of Agile. Anyways, they are a solid team that just needs a couple of weeks to hammer out the quirks and to right the ship. Will this be the week?
The Nordiques, powered by that beautiful butterfly of Johnny Turner(1ga in 2 GP) in goal and the addition of Jordan "The Mutilator" McGee(4g, 6a in 2 GP). The Nordiques added some needed speed up front and some some depth at defense to round out their competitive squad. Turner lost some LBs this year, specifically the love handles and bat wings, and has played out of his scull, but the Nords will be without the services of Turner, as he is travelling abroad under the tutelage of Vladislav Tretiak & Terry Sawchuk, refining his Stand-Up and victory celebrations. In his place will be the league's tallest and "best dressed" netminder, Petey "The Chicken Dance" Bartline. Bartline has been solid in net for the Brewers, leading them to a 2-0 record with a respectable 4.0 gaa.
The Gamblers have Enfield's own, Jered "The Condor" Condon, who is returning from a stint in the M.J.S.2.F.U.A.H.L. based out of Seoul, South Korea. Condon has been solid, but took a shootout loss to the Whalers in week 2. The Gamblers have crafty speedster Willy "Mighty Mouse" Meyer leading the way, backed by a solid group of beer drinkers that may or may not have already gambled away their UVHL dues.......how fitting.
My prediction, Nordiques 5, Gablers 4.
Classic Match at the U.
The Nordiques hosted the ramblin' Gamblers in the middle game of week 3 to a record crowd of 5.5 people. Unfortunately I think the 1/2 of a person was actually a pile of chicken wings that Shawn "The Wing Master" McDermott devoured in his pre-game ritual. It was a heavenly game to watch if you were a fan of the Nordiques and a downright frustrating game if you were wearing your Gambler Orange & Blue.
The Nordiques have been rolling, scoring 17 goals in their first 2 games and only allowing 1 goal. The Big Gamble on the other hand lost a 5-3 match the undefeated Brewers & then a HEARTBREAKING OT Shootout loss to the Whalers. But it was a whole new week, and the Gamblers did some recruiting during the 6 days of downtime. Unfortunately, it was WAY TOO MUCH RECRUITING, as they had 37 players on their bench.
The Nordiques put on the pressure right off the initial faceoff, and taking advantage of a Gambler turnover 1:50 into the game. Ian "The Grin" Coates picked up the loose puck and fed Greg "Mongoloid" Marsh in the high slot for a wicked wrister. That was just the beginning of the Marsh-Coates-Phillips connection as the Nordiques "Second" line was outstanding notching 13 points between the 3 of them. Roger "The Dirty Dentist Drill" Phillips made it 2-0 with 9:37 to go, after another Coates pass. "The Mongoloid" finished out the scoring in the 1st with his 2nd of 3 on the night.
END OF THE FIRST: Nordiques 3, Gamblers 0
SAVES: Bartline: Condon:
The Gamblers struck first when "The Milkman" Matty Marrazzo walked around Kelly "Loud Mouth" Park like cheetah around a retarded no-legged turtle stuck in a giant pile of elephant shit. Marrazzo, broke into the high slot with Park firmly attached to his hip via a major league hook, but muscled through it pulled the puck to his back hand and chipped the puck up and over the pad of Petey "The Love Guru" Bartline. The Nords bounced back with 7:56 to go in the 2nd on a Phillips to Marsh to Coates connection. Mikey "Donkey Threesome" O'Neil made it 5-1 with 1:14 to go
END OF THE SECOND: Nordiques 5, Gamblers 1
SAVES: Bartline: Condon:
The Gamblers were charged to start the 3rd and for the second straight period struck first. This time it was "The Danimal" Dan Ammel, who flew down the near boards and fired a blistering slapshot that Bartline snagged, threw straight up in the air and took a bounce backwards into the net. You could then see that Bartline peed himself just a little bit after that one as he shivered and the ice below him turned yellow. "The Mongoloid" completed the trick from Coates with 11:04 to play before "The Milkman" brought some more milk, I think it was chocolate this time.......MY FAVORITE. The Nords then broke into their song and dance and put their noses to the grindstone, out-hustling the Gamblers to at least 90% of the loose pucks. Davey "Whatchoo Talkin' About" Willis made it 7-3 on a one timer from the low slot on a pass from Park. John "Denver" McGee showed his mountain man skills on a great individual effort to make it 8-3 before Marsh to Coates finished out the scoring on the night with 4:07 to go.
For the first time in his illustrious career, Willy "Mighty Mouse" Meyer was held off of the scoresheet. Well, maybe not the first time ever, but it seems like it. Meyer was still a presence out there, forcing turnovers & reeking havoc on the Nords defenders. On the other side of the puck was Ian Coates who very well may be the catalyst for this Nordiques team. Coatesy seems to have found his groove and is playing the best hockey of his career, additionally helping to elevate the game of the "Mongoloid" and the "Dirty Dentist".
END OF REGULATION: Nordiques 9, Gamblers 3

 | Nordiques will go 3-0 Oct 28th, 2008 03:29 PM
It will be within 2 goals, but the Nords will emerge victorious tonight if they take the Gamblers seriously, because the Gamblers can play even if their team game isn't established yet. kpark Quechee, VT

But this could be the week the Gamblers put it all together. "The Milkman" Marrazzo & "Mighty Mouse" Meyers are a scary twosome. Condon has been talkin' some smack though, so I may have to rope one off of that ugly mug of his to show him just who's BOSS. CONDON, I KNOW YOU'RE READING THIS. I'M COMING FOR YA!!!!! | |
