| ODDS: | Kingers by 3 goals |
| OVER/UNDER: | 11.5 goals |
The Storm Kings(12-3-1) host the Nordiques(9-7-0) in the middle game of tonight's action. The Storm Kings are coming off of a huge 10-7 win where the netminders combined for a lowely 17 goals on 54 shots. On a high note, superstar Robbie Barker had 9 points(5g, 4a) on the 10 goals to add to his league leading 47 points. The Nordiques are looking to wash away a 6-3 loss to the Tuckeroonies, where Tuck peppered their goalie, Johnny "Anger Management" Turner with 62 shots.
The Nodiques came away with a good feeling, only loosing by 3 goals to the high powered Tuck squad with a very very short bench. That feeling is well deserved until you look at the fact that Tuck managed 62 shots in only 45 minutes of play. Johnny Turner stood on his head to keep his team in the game, and tonight will be another test. The Kingers will most likely generate half the amount of shots as Tuck, but without a doubt will have just as many, if not more, quality scoring chances. The Kingers are an exceptionally intelligent team that uses the entire sheet of ice as they prefer to move east to west than 100 mph, north to south.
The Nordiques will be looking towards their top line of Ian "Golden Hands" Coates, Roger "Tender Touch" Phillips & Mikey "Put me on the top line" O'Neil, to help counter the explosive scoring of the Kingers. They may also be getting a boost from a super late season roster addition. This players' name will be withheld from this write-up until further investigation, but will surely add some speed & intensity to the Nordiques.
In order for the Nordiques to be successful this evening, they will need to play a smart team game. Minimize the odd man rushes and clog up the neutral zone. The Storm Kings defense are especially aggressive and hockey-wise. They will pick of weak clearing passes and immediately turn them into scoring opportunities. Their defense tend to aggressively pinch, and if you happen to get the puck past them, will expertly play the body without a call.
My prediction: Storm Kings by 3 goals......7-4.
Storm Kings dismantle Nords, 10-4.
The streaking Storm Kings(13-2-1) hosted the Nordiques(9-7-0) in the middle frame of week 17. The Storm Kings are coming off of a huge 10-7 win over the Brewers where leading scorer, Robbie "The Price is Right Barker dominated with a 9 point (5g, 4a) night. The Nordiques are coming off of a 6-3 route by the Tuckeroonies, where Turner saw 62 shots in a lopsided loss. This was bound to be an interesting game as the Nordiques were focusing on getting their "Team" game back on track against a devastatingly talented Storm Kings squad.
Robbie Barker broke the deadlock at 13:02 with his league leading 48th point of the season on a garbage goal at 13:02 of the first. Assisting on the play were Dean "The Dream" Cashman & Ronnie "Frodo Baggins" Dupuis. The Kingers were in complete control early as the Nordiques didn't tally their first shot until almost 4 and a half minutes in. Johnny Turner continued to stand on his head as he turned Leroy away on a breakawy as he flared out the blocker with 8:27 to go. Turner then pushed the puck quickly to Tommy "The Great Ape" Dakai, who moved briskly gave it to Davey "Fingers" Willis. Willis then carried into the Kinger's zone, cut to the crease and beat Dan French "Fries" with a quick snap to the 5-HOLIO.
The tie was short lived as the Storm Kings rallied and Barker got his 2nd of the night and 26th of the season after feathering a saucer pass to Timmy Leroy in the high slot. Leroy fired quick one-timer which Turner kicked to the far corner, but Barker was waiting right there and one timed it up over a lunging Turner to give the Kingers the lead back. The Kings struck again just 22 seconds later when Barker created the 3rd goal as he made 2 sweet cutback moves on the Nord's Dakai just inside the zone before firing a wicked snapper 5-Hole on Turner. Turner made the initial save, but the puck squeeked out behind him heading towards the net. The Nordique's Willis tried throwing the puck into the corner instead of pushing it back under Turner, and put it right onto Leroy's stick almost in the near corner. Leroy threw a quick shot from a tight angle past both a downed Turner and inanimate Willis.
Barker got his 3rd of the night when Leroy pushed the puck forward on a faceoff just inside the King's zone. Barker tipped it past Dakai for the breakaway, walked in and sold Turner on a move to the outside before firing a quick snapper up over the glove to put the Kings up 4-1 with 2:14 to go.
The Nordiques started to settle in and put some decent pressure on the Kings and forcing French to make some huge saves on a couple of odd man rushes late in the 3rd period and closed off the 5-hole early on a blast from the Nord's Phillips to maintain the healthy lead. Again the Kingers quickly changed the momentum with only 37 seconds left when Deano Cashman made it 5-1 with a slap shot from the far boards that squeeked inside the far post off of Turner's pad and in.
END OF THE FIRST: Storm King's 5, Nordiques 1
SAVES: French(Kings) 7, Turner(Nords) 19
The Nordiques couldn't get out of their own way as the Storm King's Gosselin beat Turner just 37 seconds in with a laser from the point. The ref, Gary Laperle deemed the goal as "12 won the faceoff back to the point, goose lit up Turner with a Fucking Laser." That was Gosselin's 4th of the year and the Kinger's 6th of the night. Barker put the Kingers up 7-1 after taking a perfect pass from Cashman as he was heading behind the Nord's net. Barker fired off a quick shot beating Turner cleanly. He didn't have a chance.
The Nordiques' Ian Coates got his 11th of the season as he cut up the middle of the ice and took a sweet tip pass from Marsh on the near boards. Coates cut across the tops of the circles and fired a quick snapper along the ice, through a screen and just inside the near post to cut the Kingers lead to 7-2 with 11:51 remaining in the period. Turner managed to still play out of his mind, he was in the zone as he stuffed Leroy on a breakaway with 10:27 remaining in the period with a blocker save, and then turned away Dupuis with a pad save at 8:51, doing his best to keep his team in the game. The remainder of the period was summed up by the frustration of the Nordiques as they took 4 penalties for Tripping, Hooking, Slashing and Roughing.
END OF THE SECOND: Storm Kings 7, Nordiques 2
SAVES: French(Kings) 14, Turner(Nordiques) 38
The Kings' Leroy got his 2nd of the night and 18th of the season to put the Kings up 8-2 exactly 2 minutes into the 3rd period. The one-two punch tallied again as Barker beat Turner high glove again with a quick snapper from the low slot, and Carl the Ref reported to the scorekeeper's "And Turner is PISSED". Whih was absolutely true, his team wasn't protecting him one bit. They weren't making the easy play, they weren't getting the puck out of the zone and gave up odd man rush after odd man rush.
The Kingers' Tommy "Gun" Scull made it an even 10 on a PERTY goal with 4:00 remaining. Scull took a perfect pass up the middle of the ice from Cashman who was covering for him at defense. Scull carried the puck into the zone faked outside on Turner, cut back to the front of the net and slid the puck into the empty net. The Nordiques Greg "Mountain" Marsh put a KNUCKLE PUCK five-hole 32 seconds later to make it 10-3. Tao Smith closed out the night with a wrister off the glove side pad, up and into the net with 26 seconds remaining.
