The Kingers host the Nordiques tonight in the curtain call of week 6. The Kingers, coming off of a solid 7-5 win over the Brewers will be without Robbie "The Price Is Wrong Bitch" Barker, Tim "Enter the Dragon" Leroy, Ricky "Anger Management" Hughes (30 day suspension) & goal tender John Turner (Primary team is the Nordiques). They will have Tommy "What did I do?" Scull back, Artie "The one man party" Stout & Stu "The Lanky One" Close manning their blue line together for the first time which is always a good start.
The Nordiques are coming off of a tough 5-2 battle with Tuck, holding them to a 1-1 game until late in the second period. They have been buckling down and trying to get in a groove in the POST-WILLY-MEYER era. The Nordiques are trying to find out whether they are just an average team this year or if they can turn this season around and focus on playing around their perennial all star keeper, John Turner.
In terms of scoring, it is a David vs. Goliath matchup, with the Kingers netting 5.5 goals per game and the Nords only 3 goals per game. The Nordiques need to take advantage of the Kings short bench tonight as well as the fact that Turner isn't in net for the Kings. The Kings WILL take penalties and general lots of poorly timed and unnecessary penalties. If the Nords can sit back and not retaliate, they should be able to grind the Kingers down.
The Kingers need to stick to their game, move the puck horizontally and use the entire ice surface. If they can get some traffic in front of Turner they should be successful. Of course I don't need to mention that they NEED to stay out of the box, especially with a short bench.
My Prediction.....5-4 NORDIQUES.
Storm Kings beat Nords with short bench, 6-3.
The Storm Kings hosted the Nordiques in the late game of week 7. The Kingers were riding high off of a solid win 7-5 win over the Brewers while the Nords were trying to make up for another lackluster performance against Tuck in a 5-2 loss. The Nordiques came in with high hopes knowing that Kingers rookie sensations, Robbie Barker & Tim Leroy were away on personal leave, but didn't take into account another good addition in Eric Demment.
The Nodiques came out flying as Roger "Old Timer" Phillips fed Tao "Zero Hockey Knowledge" Smith in the low slot. Smith roofed the pass just 44 seconds into the game passed Petey "Big Boy, Lots 'O Holes" Bartline, The Kingers bounced back less than a minute later when Ian "The New Boni Guy" Gill took advantage of sloppy coverage by Tommy "The Hairy Ape" Dakai. Greg "Stops & Starts" Gosselin won the face-off to the right of Turner and Gill fired a quick no-look LASER off the far post and in. Dean "The Dream" Cashman burried a rebound off the far post again with 7:44 remaining in the 1st to put the Storm Queens....I mean Kings up by 1. Just 42 seconds later, Ian "Hands of Gold" Coates tied the game off of an O'Neil pass. With 3:29 remaining, Artie "The One Man PARTAY" Stout put the Kingers on top again on a nice pass from "The Dream". End of the first, 3-2 Kingers. SHOTS: Kings 10 Nords 16
The two teams battled for the first 7 minutes of the 2nd period, with a nice flow to the game. Solid saves at both ends by Bartleby & Turner and good clean hockey played by all. The Kingers broke the stretch of evenly played hockey when Deano fed Eric Demment to put the Nordiques in a 2 goal hole......more like a two goal chasm. Kelly "Flutter Puck" Park brought the Nords back within one with a 27 MPH CHANGE UP from the point that either terrified or turned on Bartline into opening up his gaping 5-HOLE just for Park. Some say Bartline felt bad for the washed-up never was and gave him that pity goal. End of 2 periods, Kingers up 4-2. SHOTS: Kings 18 Nords 24.
Three minutes and 42 seconds into the 3rd, Tommy "Shimmy Shake" Scull started an end to end rush that culminated in 4 shimmy shakes, 3 dipsy doos, 2 looky heres and one "I just made Park look stupid, by cutting back on him at the top of the circles, walking in all alone and beating Turner THROUGH his glove with a wrist shot." Father Time, Marty White, closed out the scoring with just 35 seconds remaining by tapping in a rebound off of Ian Gills shot.
End of regulation, Kingers 6-3. SHOTS: Kings 30 Nords 35.
