Nordiques blank Bruins on Halloween
While the Nordiques were busy battling the Bruins, my evening featured ghosts, goblins, and my own little pumpkin. It was Halloween night and like many other UVHLers I had trick r’ treat duties to attend to. After I tucked in my son and finally got to the rink my team had things well in hand and time was dwindling in the third period. I got to see some solid goaltending work from Pete Bartline who pitched a shutout subbing in my stead. At the sound of the buzzer I headed to the locker room and was berated with comments. Ranging from “hey Bledsoe”, to “you’ve been traded for a bag of pucks. I also got the recap from my teammates. Everyone said how even the game was. It remained scoreless until the 8:12 mark of the second period when the Nordiques scored a power play goal. Forward Mike O’Neil cashed in on pass from Greg Marsh as he pushed a hard shot through Bruins goalie, Greg Hadley. As the story unfolded I also found that Hadley had a great game himself. Ian Bartrum was the next Nord to find the twine as he potted a one-timer from Will Meyer and Shawn “commish” McDermott with 2:21 remaining. The Nordiques owned the third period with goals from Ian Coates, Kelly Park, and Mike O’Neil with his second tally of the contest. Thanks to Pete for filling in. Sounds like he did too good of a job!
