Nordiques shutout Avalanche in season finale
The two most dominant players on thie ice tonight were a forward and a goalie. Greg Marsh had a truly powerful performance. His booming shot hammered the back of the net 4 times clearly making him a strong contender for player of the week. Nords goalie John Turner was stalwort in the net with the season's only shutout. The game was much closer than the final 9-0 mark. The game was scoreless until midway through the first period when Nords captain Tao Smith finished a nice tic-tack-toe passing play from Ian Coates and Poli "Midnight" Nightengale at 8:31. Jim Beraldi was excellent for the Avs with another strong performance making a highlight reel save on a penalty shot from Will Meyer. The Avalanche were sacrificing defense to create scoring chances and giveaways in their own zone created 5 goals. The first with only 0:31 remaining in the first period. Deanna McDevitt was Janey-on-the-spot as she picked off a clearing attempt and slid it to a wide open Marsh on the doorstep. Marshy made no mistake and buried the feed. Things setted down for the first half of the second with both teams trading chances and great saves. The Avs looked to get back into the game with Dan Jones in the box for hooking. Marsh stole an errant clear and put it past a surprised Beraldi, shorthanded at 7:40. The Nordiques took over the game and turned a close game into a blowout scoring 2 more goals in the second and 4 in the third. The Nordiques cruise into their first round bye and lock second place into the record books with a great game.
