In the first game of the night we had the Nordiques hosting Ramuntos. The Nords are coming off an 11-5 loss to the Jacks, considering they only had 6 skaters the outcome of the game could have been a lot worse. Ramunto\'s comes into this week off a come from behind win over the Whale after falling behind by 3 goals. The Nords showed up with two full lines this week and it showed in their play. They opened the scoring up at 12:58 when Ian Coates beat Matt Albertazzi with a low hard shot on the ice. The Nords played most of the period with the lead until 2:28 left in the period when Matt Littler put home a rebound off a TJ Moran shot to tie the score. The period would end with a 1-1 tie. Tazzi had 19 saves and Ramunto"s was gaining momentum heading into the second.
With the game tied at one and Ramunto"s buzzing off a late goal and a stellar goaltending they came out hard and took it right to the Nords. It took Ramunto"s just 37 seconds to take the lead as Dave Willis put the puck past JT. Willis goal was a bit strange as the initial shot came from Geoff Noble as he took a slapper from the point that went wide and hit the end boards behind the net and popped out on Greg Hadley"s stick who took a shot and Willis picked up the rebound and tucked it past JT. Ramunto"s wasn"t done though, they kept the pressure on the Nords, about a minute after scoring their last goal Tim Barrett was able to put them up by two goals as he beat JT with a wrist shot past his glove. With Ramunto"s going up 3-1 the Nords finally fought back and cut the lead to one when Jamie Solon beat Tazzi high glove side with a nasty snipe as the Nords came in on him 4 vs. 1 with 9:35 seconds left in the period. The score would remain 3-2 for the rest of the period as both teams had even chances, Tazzi and JT both finished the period with 12 saves a piece.
In the third period both teams were searching for the games next goal as it would most likely decide the game. The Nords came out hard and took it to Ramunto"s early, in response to this pressure it forced Ramunto"s to take a penalty just two and half minutes into the period. The Nords looked to capitalize on the power play but they couldn"t get much going and Ramunto"s was able to kill it off. Both teams had chances but neither team could get the puck past the goalies, the Nords kept the pressure on and forced Ramunto"s to take another penalty, this time with 5:23 left. Again on this power play the Nords couldn"t get anything set up as they just looked out of sync tonight. Ramuntos has now killed two penalties and starting to feel some momentum swinging their way. Ramuntos was pressing hard and with just 1:59 left in the game Tim Barrett would score his second of the night on a nasty snipe that beat JT high glove side as he came down the side boards. This goal put Ramunto"s up 4-2 and as the Nords got control of the puck off the next face off they pulled JT to get an extra attacker, they got the puck deep but it didn"t take long for Ramunto"s to get possession. TJ Moran picked the puck up and fired a shot straight down the ice into the empty net to seal the win for Ramunto"s. Ramunto"s would win this game 5-2 and large part of it was due to the goaltending from Tazzi who finished the night with 45 saves.
