Winless In Woodstock: Whalers @ Dead River
| ODDS: | Whalers By 3 Goals |
| OVER/UNDER: | 7 Goals |
The Whalers & Dead River have had a rough start to the season as both teams have yet to register their first win.
The Whaler's numbers look like this: 0-2-0 Record, 5 Goals Scored, 11 Goals Allowed
Dead River's Numbers look like this: 0-3-0 Record, 4 Goals Scored, 25 Goals Allowed
Only one team will come out of this death match with a win. Dead River had the extreme misfortune to start out with back to back games agains the powerhouse Tuckies, followed by the powerhouse Gamblers. The upstart Dead Riverians didn't stand a chance as they're still trying to figure out their identity and create some chemistry.
The Whalers lost 6-3 against a shitty Nordiques team, then cleaned up their game and fought the Gamblers to a 5-2 loss. They've got a well rounded team and should compete at a higher level than they've showed so far this season.
With that being said, the two teams are pretty even in the goaltending & offensive categories but the difference will be the Whalers offense that will end with a Whalers 5-2 win.
One more thing, Dead River's Loren "The Leper" Lunt was looking to be mentioned on the website and get a nickname...any good?
Whalers Drop Dead River 5-4
With both the Whalers & Dead River winless heading into tonight\'s action, there were some heavy implications on the outcome of this game. Neither team wanted to sit at the bottom of the standings on Wednesday morning, and unfortunately for Dead River, the Whalers have moved out of Mom\'s basement and left Dead River there all alone with that dank pit of shame and irrelevance.
The Whalers had a monster night from Jimmy \"The Kitchen Sink\" Kerrigan who gave everything tonight including the kitchen sink as he potted 3 goals against Dead River\'s Matty \"Tazzy\" Albertazzi. Kerrigan scored the Whaler\'s first two goals and the game winner with just 2:33 to play. Kerrigan earned the first star for his performance while Dead River\'s TJ \"The Menace\" Moran notched the second star as he collected points(2g, 2a) on all 4 Dead River goals. Woody \"Woodpecker\" Redpath takes home the honor of third star with four assists including the primary assist on the game winner.
Kerrigan started the scoring on the Whaler\'s 3rd shot of the game with a tic-tac-toe play from behind the goal line out front to Scotty \"Sugar\" Shaw who found Kerrigan backdoor. Kerrigan walked it to the front of the net and slid it in on his backhand.
Other than that pretty goal, the first 10 minutes of play were pretty sloppy until TJ Moran took a nice pass from \"Bubba\" Lazarczyk in the neutral zone and stormed down the far boards on a 2 on 1. Moran carries the puck all the way to the bottom of the circles and beats Lallier 5-hole from a bad angle...oh, also on Dead River\'s 3rd shot of the game. that was only Dead River\'s 3rd shot...almost 11 minutes into the game. Crazy since they threw 14 shots on net against Tuck in the first period the week before.
END OF THE FIRST: Tied at 1
It is ALL Whalers through the first 5 minutes of the second as they were all over Dead River, outshooting them 10-0. Albertazzi came up big including a huge save 2:39 into the period as he stoned Woody Redpath on a breakaway where he went forehand to backhand. Tazzy also made a big save with 7:40 left on a Scotty Shaw to Redpath on the backdoor. Huge saves in the second period but Dead River had a mental lapse late in the period and let in 3 goals in the last 2:09 to play. Mental Lapse may be too nice as they really had some horrible brain farts that almost put this game out of reach.
The goals went like this:
2:09 - Fast break, odd man rush, rebound that Kerrigan batted out of the air.
0:39 - Point shot tipped in front by Gary \"The Pearl\" Laperle, save, rebound to Jay \"The Zamboni\" Zanleoni
0:28 - Right off faceoff, Redpath down near boards and makes a backhand dish to Shaw on backdoor. Albertazzi tried to 2-pad stack it, but Shaw hammered it home along the ice and clanging off the back
END OF THE SECOND: Whalers 4, Dead River 1, Shots: Whalers 29, dead River 12
The Whalers got back into this one with some big plays in the third period. TJ Moran started it off by picking off an errant pass up the middle by \"Sugar\" Shaw pass on the near boards as he tried chipping the puck out of the zone. Moran picked the puck out of the air, turns the puck the other way in one stride and beat Lallier where Mama keeps the whipped cream, top shelf right next to the milk.
Lazarczyk scored with 8:13 to play after jamming home a rebound that was laying in the crease. Moran set up the next goal which was a ridiculous one-timer by Bubba as he ripped the pass off the CROSSBAAAHHHHH and in. Absolute bullet!!!!
Kerrigan closed out the scoring with the game winner with 2:33 to play as he beat Tazzy from the far boards with a slapper high glove side. That was it, that was the winner and the skid continues for Dead River. The Dead Riverians only managed 21 shots on Lallier while the Whalers threw 38 on Albertazzi. The better team tonight was clearly the Whalers but, truth be told, Dead River played a much better defensive game tonight.
