Nordiques Play Gamblers Strong But Fall in the Third 5-2 To Gamblers

The Gamblers continue to be perfect with another win for a 6-0-0 record on the season, but the Nordiques made them work for it. By playing them tough and a defensive strategy in mind, the Nordiques kept this game close through two periods, tied it up early in the third, but couldn\'t carry their momentum through for the upset victory. Both teams were missing key components, with the Gambler\'s missing their league leading point scorer Matty \"The Milkman\" Marrazzo and the Nordiques missing their top centerman Jordy McGee and top defenseman Tommy \"The Minister of Defense\" Dakai. The Gamblers came out flying, forcing the Nordique\'s goaltender Johnny \"Temper Tantrum\" Turner to make 5 spectacular saves early on to keep the game scoreless. It wasn\'t until 6:36 remaining when the G-Men broke through after Jason \"Never A Wrister\" Young took a bomb of a slapshot from the far faceoff dot that hit the glass behind the net, took a funny bounce onto Topo LaCroix\'s stick on the near goal line. With no angle, LaCroix buried the puck past Turner for the 1-0 lead. Willy \"Weeble\" Meyer made it 2-0 with 1:08 to play after a Nick MacDonald point shot made it through a screen, hit Turner and landed perfectly for Meyer to jam home the rebound. Meyer was open due to the Nordique\'s Kelly \"Defensive Liablity\" Park playing the shot instead of taking Meyer out of the play. End of the first period and the Gamblers were rolling, they were solid and took it to the Nords, but only held a two goal lead. The Nordiques cut that lead to one goal after Greg \"The Big Butcher\" Marsh let a bomb go from 60 feet out that Seidling seemed to be scared of and Shy away from. Early in the third period the Nordiques seemed to be turning the tides, tying the game up on a beaut by Roger \"The Dirty and Rusty Old Dentist Drill\" Phillips. At that moment it seemed as though the Nords could possibly pull this one out, ending the Gamblers winning streak, but that was short lived as Meyer notched his second goal of the game less than two minutes later from MacDonald & Ammel. Two and a half minutes later with Park in the box for tripping Ammel took a faceoff win from Meyer deep in the Nordique\'s zone and fired a hard snapper that changed direction off of a Nordique\'s defenseman up and over Turner\'s shoulder. That goal took the wind out of the sails out of the Nordiques. Two minutes later, as the Nordiques put together one of the worst looking powerplays, giving up a shorty to LaCroix for his second of the game...adding some icing to the cake and some shame to the Nordiques locker room. The Gamblers are scary good, the Nords played them tough, but it wasn\'t enough. \"It was great to be involved in a close game...I\'m sick of playing in blowouts\" said Meyer after the game.
