Nordiques Back on Track After 11-3 Blowout of Dead River

After last weeks embarrassing losses for both the Nordiques & Dead River, there was visible anxiety from every player on the ice. The two teams were desperate to prove that they were NOT as bad as their showing the previous week. The Nordiques were victimized by a potent Tuck lineup, 10-2. After winning their first two games by a combined score of 20-10, the Nordiques may have been a bit over confident in week 3, but returned to form tonight against Dead River. Dead River had a good start to their season with a win over the Whalers and a 5-4 shootout loss to Tuck before being hammered 12-1 by the Gamblers & roughed up 11-3 tonight. You could tell the way this game was going to go from the initial minutes when Greg \"The Butcher\" Marsh hammered a 60 foot bomb from the far boards past Greg \"First Period\" Feiden. It wasn\'t Feiden\'s night, and he has officially been put on suicide watch after letting up 23 goals in the past two games. In Feiden\'s defense....there wasn\'t much being played. Dead River let the Nordiques walk around them in all 3 zones. They looked lost & broken down as they started to chase the deficit and completely left Feiden out to dry. Marsh added his second goal of the game with 6:39 to play on a back door pass from Ian \"The Grin\" Coates. Feiden played the pass well, but Marsh whiffed on the close one timer and sent a dribbler past Feiden. Ricky Golden \"Showers\" let it rain a bit in the Nordiques crease as he outmuscled a Nordique\'s defenseman on top of the crease. Golden A-framed perfectly, faked right then whipped around to the left on his forehand sliding the puck under Turner. END OF THE FIRST: Nordiques 2, Dead River 1 During the intermission, Jordy \"McBreakaway\" McGee was discussing the 2 botched breakaways he had in the first period and asked for any suggestions. One smartass team mate suggested \"Pulling a Chara\", or taking a slapshot from the slot, to which McGee complied just 97 seconds into the period. Kelly \"The Mouth\" Park hit McGee with a 100 foot breakaway pass from deep in the Nordiques zone giving McGee plenty of time as he walked in all alone, threw a head fake and wound up for a slap shot from the hashmarks, roofing the puck from one knee on Feiden\'s Glove Side. \"Mean\" Dean Cashman cut the lead back to one just 9 seconds later after taking a pass from \"Slick\" Rick Hughes and burying his second of the season past Turner. The wheels started to completely come off for Dead River at this point when added a pair of goals, both assisted by his BF4E Pierce \"Mayhem\" Mayhew. McGee\'s goals gave him a hatrick in the period and sandwiched a beautiful goal from Brian \"The Rash\" Racicot. The goal came from Jimmy \"Killer\" Kerrigan who made a nice play to keep the puck in at the point and with pressure threaded a needle to Racicot on the far faceoff dot. Racicot took the pass and buried a hard snapshot over the shoulder of Feiden who got across the crease remarkably fast. END OF THE SECOND: Nordiques 6, Dead River 2 The Nordiques dominated the 3rd period, netting 5 of their 11 goals and showing no mercy to an exhausted Dead River squad. Both Roger \"The Rusty Drill\" Phillips & Pierce \"Mayhem\" Mayhew added a pair of goals before Coates closed out the scoring in the last minute with a tic-tac-toe play from Phillips & Marsh. Dead River also added a 3rd period goal with Golden\'s second of the game one a 2 on 0 that left Turner shaking his head. END OF REGULATION: Nordiques 11, Dead River 3 It was an ugly game from Dead River. They managed to stay out of the box, minus a matching penalty call in the 2nd, but their team play was horrific. Their forwards didn\'t back check and didn\'t seem to care. Their defense started to push the offense, which led to some devastating turnovers, and in the end it didn\'t seem as though Feiden had confidence in his defenseman to make the right play and was trying to play the shot, pass and his own demons. The jury is still out on both the Nordiques & Dead River. Dead River has the talent and Feiden is a much better goaltender than both his numbers & play have shown. The Nords on the other hand have looked dominant in 3 of their games, yet horrible in a 10-2 loss to Tuck. Turner hasn\'t been great, but looks to be coming around. Only time will tell in this early season...
