I predict fireworks in this one. The Gamblers hate to lose, and so do the Oilers. Dead River is frustrated, and it seems to be building. Their team game is still lacking, and they have had 3 incidents in 3 consecutive weeks where a player has been ejected and suspended. Not cool. The league is watching, we can promise you that. The Gamblers never, ever quit. They have the best transition game, play well enough defensively, and cycle the puck and distribute it in the offensive end with the MMA line better than any other. Allison Malcolm is the best positional forward in the league, and rocks on face-offs. If the Oilers take any liberties with her in physical play, look out - a Donnybrook will ensue. The Gamblers will welcome solid goaltender Greg Feisen in net for his UVHL debut!
THE LEAGUE IS WATCHING. BEHAVE. HAVE FUN. GO FOR A BEER. GO TO WORK THE NEXT DAY.
My prediction: Gamblers by 2.
Gamblers Shutout Dead River 7-0.
Some would consider this a David versus Goliath Battle, others a McDermott versus a Plate of Buffalo Wings Battle, others would just say that Hadley sucks. This reporter just thinks that Hadley sucks....at life.....in general. Regardless of Hadley's inefficiencies as a human being, this was an uphill battle for the 2-6-1 Dead River Rats as they battled the undefeated Gamblers. The top line in the UVHL again had a night of epic proportions as Willy "Wobble" Meyer, Dan "The Animal" Ammel & Matty "The Milkman" Marrazzo combined for 11 points out of the 14 combined team points tonight. Meyer led the way with a hat trick & 2 assists, followed by Ammel's Hatty & 1 assist & Marrazzo chipping in a respectable goal & assist. The MMA line was outstanding again, dominating nearly every shift they were on the ice together. Dead River was also a bit short-handed, missing 3 integral cogs to the evil Dead River Machine, with Evan "Dukes" Duggan out for fighting, his co-workers Tommy "Bones" Scull & Robbie "Head Butt" Pattison all missing from the lineup.
Despite giving up 7 goals, Greg Hadley wasn't horrific as 4 of the 7 goals were put in off of rebounds. Some would say that Hadley should have controlled said rebounds, but his defense also should have taken the oppositions sticks as they jumped on the loose pucks. At the other end of the ice was Greg Feisen, making his UVHL debut. Feisen was exceptional as he turned away 25 shots, give or take a few, en route to a shutout. "That kid was dirty good" said Hadley, "we just couldn't get anything past him."
The 1st period started of slowly as both teams felt each other up, trying to figure out how easy each other was. Once the Gamblers realized that Dead River was as easy as a two-dime whore, Willy Meyer slipped one past the goalie with 6:43 to play. Ammel followed up just 25 seconds later as he used the defenseman as a screen and fired his black biscuit into Hadley's gaping 5-hole for a 2-0 lead. Ending a ridiculously long shift was the third member of their line with "The Milkman" delivering a batch of sour milk to Hadley's front door with 4:00 to play in the first period. Despite the quick 3-0 lead, this was a relatively even period, with the difference maker being Feisen in net for the Gamblers.
END OF THE FIRST: Gamblers 3, Dead River ZERO
Meyer opened up the second period with his 2nd goal of the game just 1:03 in, assisted by Marrazzo & Scotty "French Fries" Fraser. The Second frame is when the game started to tilt towards the Dead River's end, partially due to two early penalties that they had to kill off. DR was successful on both penalty kills, but didn't seem to be able to recover as quickly as they would have liked. The Gambler's tenacious forecheck bogged down their opponent eventually snapping with Ammel's second of the game late in the period to give the G-men a 5-0 lead.
END OF THE SECOND: Gamblers 5, Dead River ZILCH
The third period was more of the second as the Gambler's continued to pound away, but Dead River did put up a good fight until the last couple of minutes when they took another bad penalty and gave up a pair of goals 25 seconds apart late in the game. The first came on the power play as Meyer finished his hat trick with an unassisted goal at 3:58. Ammel finished his hat trick at 3:33 from his BFF Willy Meyer to close out the scoring on the night and cap a big win for the Gamblers.
END OF THE THIRD: Gamblers 7, Dead River NADA

Nice job Greg! I love the yellow pads. Shutouts are rare especially in your first game. | |
