Avs Mud best 3-1 after four games; Potter 2-1-1; Kings 1-2-1; Stars 1-3.
The Avalanche are making noise in the UVHL's Mud League this spring with only a 5-4 loss to the Storm Kings on 3/22 to blemish their 3-1 record thus far. They squeaked by the Stars 4-3 on Saturday night on Christian "Dr. McBicep" Isaac's GWG slapper that nicked JT's shoulder but still found its way under the crossbar, and Isaac finished the game with 2G, 1A, and Dr. McSelfish finally beat Dr. McDefense 1-on-1 (but did not go through him) after going 0-for-27 since October. The Storm Kings improved to 1-2-1 winning this "week" over the Avs, and then battling Potter to a 5-5 regulation tie on Saturday after both Potter Construction and the Kings refused to participate in a shootout. Apparently they were just happy with a tie...regardless of the rules... Kings Tenacious D Tom Scull was to be given credit for the OT goal as he was the first player assigned to shoot for the Kings, and it might have given him the Hat Trick, but he showed class and did not go down and shoot on an empty net after Potter suggested he should. Only the Kings assigned their 3 shootout participants, but both teams skated off the ice and denied the other UVHLers and fans in attendance the excitement of a shootout. Todd Bebeau had a strong game for Potter and had 2G, 2A in the regulation tie. We had initially given the Kings the default win and extra point until we discussed it further, and we have made the executive decision to recind that based on their poor sportsmanship as well. Both teams will keep one point for the regulation tie because that is in the spirit of hockey and would disrespect the game further if they were both given losses.
Potter beat the Stars handily 6-2 on Thurs 3/22 and dominated them in every aspect and in every zone, but it was Will Meyer that was the difference for Potter with 3G, 1A including the GWG. The Storm Kings caught the Avs off guard and had the right 8 players in the line-up to ice the Avs 5-4 even though the Avs had all their horses there. The Kings had a balanced attack and great efforts from all 8 skaters as no player earned more than 2 points in the game. The Stars are 1-3, but have been more competitive each game as the roster is gellin' both on the ice and post-game, and with the exception of the game against Potter, the Stars have been making it difficult for the oppostion.
Referee Gary Laperle did solo duty on Saturday night with all the other refs out of town, and he earned every penny for his superb effort! Great job, Gary, and thanks!
