The Nords come into this week with a 1-1-1 record after being throttled by Tuck last week. The Nords look to Jamie Solon and Pierce Mayhew (who are one two on the team in points) to get things turned around. JT has looked good in the net but not always getting the help he needs in his own zone.
The Whalers come into this week as the only team to not win a game this year with 0-3 record. In all three games they have been right there but they have been running out of steam in the third period. The Whalers are led by their first line which is made up of Scotty Shaw, Woody Redpath and James Kerrigan.
These two teams are pretty even but the Whalers will snap out of their losing streak and win this one 4-2. Lallier will stand on his head and the first line will provide all the offense for the Whale.
The last game of the night saw the Nordiques take on the last place Whalers who are looking for their first win of the 2014 season. The game started with the Nords dominating the first six minutes peppering Kenny Lallier early. The Nords finally struck first at 7:37 on a goal from Pierce Mayhew who let a twisted wrister go from the point. The Nords continued to pressure the Whalers and stuck again at 1:52 as Pierce let a ripper go from the slot beating Lallier. Lailler had a solid first period with 16 saves keeping his team in the game.
The second period saw the Whalers pushing back, led by Woody Redpath. Woody had a breakaway about 4 minutes into the second but JT denied him. Just a minute after this big save the Nords scored again as Billy Sailer put home the rebound on a wraparound attempt from Roger Phillips. Only 40 seconds later the Nords Jamie Solon came out of his end full speed ahead, beating the Whalers defense and then dragging Lailler across the front of the net to beat him high glove side on his backhand. This goal was the prettiest of the night and when Solon gets moving watch out, this guy is fast and shifty! Even though the Nords are up 4-0 early in the second the Whalers kept pushing back and finally broke through at 2:43 mark in the period on a goal form Dillan Pierce who was set up by Woody Redpath. Although JT gave up a goal late, he had a 14 saves in the period and allowed his team to remain up 4-1.
The third period saw the Nords coming out ready to put the game out of reach for good. They kept pressuring the Whalers but Lailler kept his team in it with save after save. The Nords were able to add two more goals late in the period, one from Jamie Solon as he did his thing racing down the ice full speed, backing the defense up and then beating Lailler short side glove. The Last goal of the night came from Stu Grande on a nice tip off of Kelly Park"s shot. The Nords win the game 6-1.
It should be noted that both teams were short tonight as the Whalers only had 9 skaters and the Nords had 10. Lailler was tested all night and kept his team in the game with 33 saves. JT wasn"t as busy at the other end but when the Whalers pushed back he was there for his team, making 22 saves on the night.
