Another Barn Burner Expected Between Whalers & Cardigan
| ODDS: | Cardigan By 1 Goal |
| OVER/UNDER: | 15 Goals |
In three games this season between the Whalers & Cardigan there has been a total of 44 goals scored. Cardigan has taken two of the wins and the Whalers squeaked out an 8-7 win in November after holding a 6-1 lead.
Cardigan has the dynamic Owen Carpino who has scored an amazing 32 goals in 12 games this season. Cardigan has 7 players with double digit points this season compared to 6 for the Whalers.
The Whaler's Joe Gaudet leads the league in points with 45 on an impressive 27 goals, but has the advantage over Carpino with 18 assists to Carpino's 6.
Cardigan and the Whalers sit 5th and 6th in the league, respectively, in the standings but the Whalers have let up 92 goals this season compared to 78 for Cardigan.
This will be a high scoring game as the Whalers lead the league with 87 goals in 15 games and Cardigan has netted 81. Carpino is responsible for 40% of his team's goals, so shutting him down is crucial for the Whale.
Both teams have had roster issues as of late but the Whalers welcome back Jay Zanleoni from suspension and will need him tonight.
If Scotty "Sugar" Shaw, Woody Redpath & Gaudet all show up this could lean in favor of the Whalers, if not...this is an 8-7 win for Cardigan.
Holy Shitty Defense Batman...Cardigan Beats Whale 12-10
From the score you may be able to tell that this was a free-flowing scoring bonanza of epic proportions. Both goaltenders were terrible as they let up a combined 22 goals. Both team\'s defense left their goaltenders out to dry and backchecking was frowned upon.
The offense was dominated by the typical offensive juggernauts with the unexpected surprise return of Ryan \"The Kitchen\" Sinclair from a knee injury back in November. Sinclair only scored one goal, but his puck control and veteran leadership were sorely missed...oh, and he also had 6 assists on the night, 5 of which were first assists. Owen Carpino(5g, 1a) and Timmy LeRoy(4g, 2a) were major contributors in the win. The Whaler\'s \"Jumbo\" Joe Gaudet(3g, 3a), Woody Redpath(1g, 5a), Scotty \"Sugar\" Shaw(4g, 1a) and Jay \"The Zamboni\" Zanleoni(2g, 3a) all had fantastic nights for the Whalers.
Both goaltenders saw a bunch of shots, but rumor has it that Matty Albertazzi was a bit busier and was called upon to make some huge saves in the win. Despite giving up 10 goals, he was much better than the score would tell. The Whaler\'s Kenny \"The Dirty Frenchman\" Lallier\'s 12 goals may be a UVHL lowpoint for the veteran shooter-tutor. He let in a couple of softies, but you need to take into account, for both goaltenders, the talent taking those shots was top notch.
Cardigan has represented some difficult games for the Whalers and tonight wasn\'t their best effort. Not many teams can run and gun with Cardigan and the game plan was ill-conceived.

While it seemed high, the 15 goals on this one wasn't even close to being excessive as it was surpassed by the midway point of the game.
I was the dope that missed the memo about the game time being at 8, and not 8:30 like it was earlier in the season. When I stepped on the ice early in the second is was already 6-5. Perhaps I could have helped keep a goal or two out, but let's be honest, I probably wouldn't have done much for my own team's offensive efforts, so it was likely a wash on the scoreboard. Both teams will need to reconsider the defensive approach going forward, haha. Ozzy Enfield, NH
