Gamblers Get Revenge....Sort Of...7-4

The Whalers last two against the Gamblers were historic. The first of the two games was the final game of the season and the Gamblers sat with a perfect 21-0-0 record. The Whalers ruined their bid for perfection. Still the underdogs in the finals 3 weeks later, the Whalers shocked the world with a 3-2 win over the heavily favored Gamblers. Tonight the Gamblers were again...still...heavily favored, and backed that up.

The loss put the Whalers in a 0-2-0 hole to start the season and the Gamblers got back to .500 after a 4-3 loss to the Nordiques last week.

NOTE - The Whaler\'s Jay \"The Zamboni\" Zanleoni is playing defense tonight. Not sure who this is good for...especially after last week where he fell on his ass 8 times...probably the Gamblers.

GMB - 1-0 - sloppy Defense, Meyer from behind the net fed Ammel, low glove side (1st shot of game)

GMB - 2-0 - Turnover at center ice by Stally, \"Goose\" walks in on a 2 on 1, 5-holio (2nd Shot)

GMB - 3-0 - Harrington point shot, wrister through traffic, kenny was down over glove

WHL - 1-3 - 2 on 2 down far boards, Redpath shot, kicksave to near boards where Shaw one-timed the puck DEAD CENTER off the center pipe with a weak thud

NOTE - Shaw splits the defense at 9:25, cuts to the front of the net, pad save by Van Schoik

GMB - 4-1 - Thing 1 & Thing2 team up, low snapper from far faceoff dot by Thing1(Topo LaCroix), rebound in crease picked up by Thing2(Goose LaCroix), stepped back and to near post and put it in under lallier

NOTE - Ammel hits post on an empty netter with 7:40 to play in 1st

END OF FIRST: Gamblers 4, Whalers 1. Lallier(WHL) 10 Saves, Van Schoik(GMB) 11 Saves. The early part of that period was DOMINATED by the Gamblers. The Whalers came out flat, looked like shit, played like shit and paid for it. They played a better second half, but need to dig themselves out of a hole

NOTE - Zanleoni gets moved back to forward...Gary \"The Pearl Necklace\" LaPerle drops back to defense.

NOTE - Whalers get a 2 on 1 in the first minute with Redpath feeding Shaw all alone, Van Schoik 2-pad stacks, Shaw throws a field goal over then net and through the uprights...no points.

NOTE - Lallier makes a dandy of a kicksave on Meyer after he splits the defense with 3:548 gone in the period.

GMB - 5-1 - Marrazzo in the corner finds Meyer in the high slot for a one-timer, 2-pad stack by Lallier, AMAZING, but the puck dribbles through somehow and into the net.

NOTE - Apparently there was a 2-pad stack tutorial on the NHL Network this weekend.

NOTE - The Whalers have some chemistry with RedPath & Shaw.

NOTE - Lallier is making some BIG saves, trying to keep his team in it. The ice is tilting again towards Lallier, the shots are coming too.

WHL - 5-2 (SH) - Redpath from the corner finds Shaw in slot, jimmy shakes Bergeron, forehand to backhand back to forehand, and quick snapper over the glove.

NOTE - Gamblers are 0-2 on the PP tonight

END OF THE SECOND: Both teams scored one goal but the Gamblers carried the play. Outshooting the Whalers 9-7. Lallier came up BIG, and we still have a game.

GMB - 6-2 - Meyer goes 5-hole on Lallier, hits back of net so hard the vibrations from the net shook the dust off the rafters

WHL - 6-3 - Great play by Repath to get Shaw the puck, splits defense, goes to backhand, but Van Schoik stuffs him. Redpath slides loose puck under Van Schoik

WHL - 6-4 - Zanleoni hits Pierce on top of crease

WHL - 7-4 - Missed it

END OF REGULATION: Gamblers 7, Whalers 4. Lallier(WHL) 32 Saves, Van Schoik(GMB) 28 Saves. Whalers battled in the third, but couldn\'t overcome the hole they put themselves in to start the game.
