Battle of top lines
| ODDS: | Gamblers by 3 |
| OVER/UNDER: | 12 |
The UVHL's top two lines face-off against each other in the middle frame tonight. The Gamblers MMA line of Will Meyer , Matt Marrazzo, and Dan Ammel are the number 1-2-3 league scorers. The Nords "Three Youts" line of Jordan McGee, Brian Racicot, and Pierce Mayhew sit at the 4-5-6 spots in scoring. So what will happen? The Gamblers will win beacuse their team play is better and they make cleaner passes and move the puck better. Goaltending is arguably even between both squads even though Condon sports the league's top GAA, but he faces far less shots because of the Gamblers puck control and time of possession and save percentages are practically even. Both goalies are big game goalies, but I think the offense will be wide open tonight as the Nords will try to match the Gamblers offense. So, a higher scoring game and I predict the Gamblers win 8-5.
Nords fall to Gamblers 5-2
It was close, and then out of reach. The Nords actually thought they could stand a chance against the mighty Gamblers for a while, and then it all fell apart... What do I remember? Well, I recall getting roasted on a 2-on-1 by Marrazzo and Ammel for the GWG and the rest is a blur cuz I\'m still angry about it, and I\'ll be pissed off all week to tell you the truth. The Gamblers scored early to set the tone and never trailed in this one: Seely from Malcolm at 12:32. Marrazzo added a unassisted goal at 5:28 to make it 2-0. The Nords got a big goal with only 42 seconds left after McGee put one past Condon from Nightingale and Racicot to enter the second period down 2-1.
Two penalties marked the second with Park going for hooking at 6:26 and Seely for tripping at 3:17, but it was the Gamblers who capitalized, not on the PP, but on the PK. the Nords had a ridiculously stupid face-off alignment that had only one D back and the rest up front. The puck came to the side of the face off in the gamblers zone and Young fed marrazo up the right side and he went in 2-on-1 with Ammel and roasted McD with a pass right to a streaking Ammel who froze JT and then put it past his outstretched pad. McD didn\'t even see Ammel and thought it was a 1-on-1 with some backchecking help on the trailer, and looked like a fat pylon on the play. That goal changed the game with only 1:46 left in the period.
Ammel scored early in the third at 12:23 from Meyer and then the game was out of reach after the Nords hung in there for almost a full period with the league\'s top team. mayhew\'s goal was helpful, but was too little too late with 10:06 to go as the Nords let JT down after he played well enough for the win without the run support needed fromhis team. LaCroix had a breakaway and McD almost tripped him successfully, but he got past and JT made the save. Late in the period LaCroix sent a seeing eye puck intot the top corner on a screen from Malcolm and the scoring ended 5-2. The second line had 2 big goals with center Allison Malcolm getting 2 first assists, and the Gamblers depth on offense made a difference even though it was the Ammel-Marrazzo shorty that killed the Nords.
Final Score: Gamblers 5, Nords 2
Final Tally: Ammel had 2G including the GW shorty from Marrazzo who had 1G, 1A, and Malcolm had 2A as the only multiple point getters for the Gamblers in a complete team effort. Nightingale had 2A on both Nords goals and played great at both ends. JT faced 24 shots and kept his team in it until they let him down.
Final Analysis: No excuses. As JT said post-game the Nords \"aren\'t gonna win anything playing like that\", and they allowed a game winning shorty and 3 goals on turnovers from within their own zone. The Gamblers are too deep, and can hang with you when you\'re playing above your usual level, and then blow it wide open. Full credit to the Gamblers for a solid effort and win. The Nords managed a pathetic 11 shots on goal. A new low against the Gamblers? Possibly even a franchise low for the Nords? McD looked like a fat pylon out there for the entire game.
See you on the ice
