Dead River Hopes To Roll Against the Whalers.

Dead River is rolling with back to back wins and their first winning streak of the year. They handily discarded the powerhouse Nordiques 8-1 two weeks ago before thumpin' the Brewers 11-6 last week. The Whalers sit in dead last with only one win this season and took a horrific 13-0 beatdown from the Gamblers 2 weeks ago. Last week they played a good Tuck team hard, scoring 3 late goals to make it a game in a 5-4 loss. Dead River has won both games against the Whalers this season, 5-3 and an 8-7 shootout win. This game could go either way, especially considering the fact that Dead River has had trouble fielding a full roster in the late games. Dead River should pull out the win, 6-4.

Ian Coates Beats the Whalers.

The Nordiques beat the Whalers tonight 5-3...let me rephrase that, The Nordique\'s Ian \"The Tooth\" Coates powered Dead River past the Whalers tonight 5-3. Dead River was left shorthanded by the holiday season and pulled in 3 Nordique players to fill out their roster. Coates, Greg \"The Butcher of Guelph\" Marsh and Jordy \"McLovin\" McGee all filled in to round out Dead River. Coates killed the Whalers with a hat trick and now has a best friend in Ricky Golden \"Showers\" who had the only assist on all 3 of his goals. Golden was outstanding as well as he contributed his own goal on his 4 point night. In only his second season in the UVHL, Golden has already surpassed his rookie year stats in half the amount of games. Golden now has 11 goals and 8 assists in 7 games, compared to 8 goals & 4 assists in 14 games last season. All of the scoring in tonight\'s tilt was done in the first half of the game, allowing Dead River to play shut-down defense in the second half and coast to their 5th win of the season. Greg \"First Period\" Feiden stopped 41 of 44 for the win, while Kenny \"AARP\" Lallier was a bit busier, stopping 48 of 53 shots. The Whalers got on the board first at 10:58 when rookie AJ Hammel made a long cross-ice breakout pass to Tommy \"Pisster\" Crapser. Crapser took the pass in stride on the far boards and beat Feiden with a quick release wrister on the far side. Coates tied the game on the next shift after burying a backdoor pass from his new BFF, Golden, only to see Jay \"The Zamboni\" Zanleoni rip a snapshot from the high slot past Feiden\'s glove. Things went downhill from there for the Whalers as they gave up the next two. Golden converted on a horrible turnover in the near corner as a Whaler\'s defenseman threw the puck up the middle. Golden dragged the puck to the slot and beat Lallier with a quick wrister blocker side for his 11th of the season and 2:49 to play in the first. Golden then dished the puck to Coates who put on a \"Dangle Nation Clinic coming out of the corner and beat Lallier with a shot right along the ice. END OF THE FIRST: Whalers 2, Dead River 3 The Whaler\'s tied the game in the first minute of the second period on a \"Mean\" Dean Cashman hooking penalty that started in the first period. It was a beautiful tic-tac-toe play that saw Chucky Gaede move the puck to Scotty \"Sizzling\" Shaw behind the net. Shaw then found Nick \"The Deep, Dark & Long\" Hall on through the crease on the backdoor for a one-timer. Coates & Golden connected again just 63 seconds later for the 4-3 lead and eventual game winner. Dead River\'s player/coach/manager/massage specialist Greg \"Humpin\" Hadley cleaned up some garbage off of a Coates shot with 9:58 to play, before going down hard, hurting one of his arthritic shoulders in the process. END OF THE SECOND: Whalers 3, Dead River 5 The third period saw the best goalteding of the game, with Feiden stopping all 16 shots he faced and Lallier turning away all 19 put on his net. Dead River had to kill off an early Holding penalty to Golden. END OF REGULATION: Whalers 3, Dead River 5 The Whalers sit in last place with a 1-8-2 record, and just can\'t seem to find ways to score. With a league low 39 goals for and high 76 goals for, they have a ton of work to do in order to win another game. Dead River has put together a nice 3 game winning streak with a SOLID 8-1 thrashing of the Nordiques, 11-6 barn burner over the Brewers and tonight\'s 5-3 win over the Whalers. They are dangerous and have started to improve all aspects of their game.
