Nordiques Vs. Dead River
| ODDS: | Nordiques By 4 Goals |
| OVER/UNDER: | 10 Goals |
The Nordiques(5-2-1) host Dead River(2-5-1). Dead River has had roster issues all season long, resulting in a disastrous start to the season with a league worst -25 goal differential. Their goaltender Greg "Suicide Watch" Feiden has paid the price of a team that has thrown defense out the window.
The Nordiques sit in 3rd place, with 3 losses to the top 2 teams. The Nordiques handily thumped Dead River 5 weeks ago 11-3. Don't expect Dead River to lay down and let the Nordiques walk all over them. Feiden is bound to return to form, and Dead River has the talent to turn things around.
Nordiques should win this one 7-3.
Nordiques Float a Stinker Down Dead River
The Nordiques made a slew of mistakes in tonight\'s game, but the biggest may have been allowing Dead River to use Jay \"The Chin\" Zanleoni as a sub. Zanleoni ripped the Nords for 3 goals and 2 assists and looked like a natural fit on the wing with Robbie \"Beefcakes\" Pattison. \"Beefcakes\" added 3 goals and an assist himself while their other winger \"Mean\" Dean Cashman contributed with 4 assists for the top line.
Dead River was all over the Nords from the initial puck drop, outshooting the Puke Green & Gold 49-39. The Nordiques were bad from the goal out. Johnny \"Temper Tantrum\" Turner let in 2 softies, his defense couldn\'t play a 2 on 1 right, their forwards let up too many odd man rushes and their overall team play was sloppy.
Turner\'s first \"softie\" came at 10:10 when Jason Loomis broke in on Turner and let a 3 MPH knucklepuck fly through Turner\'s gaping 5-hole. \"That\'s one I wish I had back.\" said Turner after the game. Pattison got his first of the night with 8:52 to play only to follow up with a highlight goal after toe-dragging Tommy \"The Minister of Defense\" Dakai and roofing it on Turner from in close. \"He penetrated the minister of defense...NASTY. You never see Tommy get burned like that\" said Greg \"The Meat\" Marsh, as he sharpened his butcher\'s knives after the game.
Dead River outshot the Nordiques 19-9 in the first period, scoring 3 goals, as they made a very clear statement that they were not the team the Nordiques beat up on 11-3 in week 2.
END OF THE FIRST: Nordiques ZERO, Dead River 3
Jason \"Lucky\" Loomis got his second of the night on another \"softie\" by Turner. The power play goal came with the Nordique\'s Marsh in the box for interference. Loomis picked up a pass from Bobby \"The Rocket\" Rosati and casually skated into the near corner as if he were going to go behind the net, before flinging a bad angle shot off Turner\'s shoulder and into the top corner. \"Holy Crap, I never would have predicting he\'d shoot the puck on the power play from that angle.\" said Turner of the blistering flip shot that made him look so bad.
The Nordque\'s finally got on the board 7 minutes later on a \"Fierce\" Pierce Mayhew goal that would prove to be the only offense the dismal Nordiques could generate. Pattison put Dead River back up by 4 goals by completing his hat trick on the Power Play. It was an amazing goal by Pattison as he snuck in back door and took a rocket of a shot from Chris Warrington that Turner deflected to the corner, but somehow Pattison one-timed the hard rebound into the empty net.
END OF THE SECOND: Nordiques 1, Dead River 5
It was all downhill in the 3rd period for the Nordiques, Jay \"The Chin\" Zanleoni steamrolled the lifeless Nordiques with a natural hat trick. Zanleoni\'s first came on another Dead River powerplay with Mayhew in the box for a bad and lazy hooking penalty. Zanleoni must have sent some mystical chin music to Pattison who feathered a pass through 3 players to Zanleoni on the backdoor for the one timer. Great goal....better pass.
Zanleoni\'s second goal came when a Nordique\'s defenseman pinched leaving Kelly \"The Mouth\" Park flat-footed and useless on his own blue line as he watched Pattison & Zanleoni race towards Turner. Park doesn\'t possess the skating skills to catch up with a partially retarded Mite-B hockey player, let alone Zanleoni at full speed. Pattison marched into the zone with the puck, froze Turner with a leg shake and fired a hard backdoor to Zanleoni crashing the net.
Zanleoni completed the hat trick with 4:46 to play on another 2 on 1 with Pattison, this time Zanleoni carried the puck in, looked to hit Pattison backdoor, but the puck ricocheted off of the defenseman\'s skate and in, closing out the scoring, putting a stake in the hearts of the Nordiques and ruining Turner\'s already horrific night.
END OF REGULATION: Nordiques 1, Dead River 8
Dead River came to play, and Zanleoni was the perfect compliment to Pattison\'s game. The two \"big boys\" were strangely on the same page for never having played together, combining for 6 goals & 9 points. Some Nordique\'s players bitched about Zanleoni subbing in on an already full roster, but the truth of the matter is the Nordiques couldn\'t muster any solid scoring chances on Greg \"First Period\" Feiden. Feiden was always there, maintained his rebounds and didn\'t give them anything to shoot at. If you take away the 5 goals that Zanleoni contributed on, the Nordiques still lose 3-1.
It\'s good to see the \"lowly\" Dead River boys play solid hockey. They\'ve got the tools, but don\'t always have the right man-power & mindset to win hockey games. What we\'ve learned about the Nordiques....they just aren\'t that good. They miss their leader, Shawn \"McDefense\" McDermott desperately.
