The Whalers came into the night looking for their first win of the season against the number one team in the league, the Lumberjacks. The Whalers came out fast as they were determined to win this game, they got the game"s first goal from Ryan Foss who was set up by James Kerrigan on the power play at the 9:5 mark. The Whalers continued to push for the games next goal and they were able to get it at 4:12 when Jason Yehle received a pass in the slot from Scotty Shaw and fired one passed the Jacks goalie to put them up 2-0. The Whalers weren"t done as they were able to get one more goal from Mike Avery with ten seconds left. The Whalers dominated the first period and were headed into the second period with a 3-0 lead.
The Jacks came out much harder than they did in the first period and challenging Whalers. The Jacks finally got on the board at 9:59 in the period when Christian Henault put one past Lallier after getting the puck from Jay Zanieoni and Jake Robinson. The Whalers struck back at 8:01 in the period as Scotty Shaw beat Libby after he kicked out a rebound from a James Kerrigan shot. The Whalers had a 4-1 and seemed to be on course for their first win. The Jacks got a power play shortly after the Whalers went up 4-1 and they were able to get a power play goal from Zanieoni as he was set up backdoor from Sean Murphy and Jordan Mcgee. After giving up a power play goal, the Whalers took another penalty and the Jacks Gary Laperle beat Lallier this time after being set up by McGee and Marc Gattie. The Jacks were gaining momentum and very close to tying the game, they were finally able to do so with 1:48 left in the period after Sean Murphy scored on a two on two with Mcgee. The period ended with the game tied at four heading into the final period.
The third period saw the Jacks come out hard and buzzing off the momentum they gained in the second period, the Whalers were starting to show signs of fatigue with only three subs. The Jacks went ahead for the first time at 12:50 after Marc Gattie snuck down into the slot and let one fly high glove side that beat Lallier. Gattie was set up by a pretty tape to tape pass from McGee out of the corner. The Jacks had all the momentum now and kept pushing for the games next goal, they went up 6-4 at 9:20 into the period after Sean Murphy beat Lallier after being set up by McGee. Just 16 seconds later McGee took the puck from the faceoff and went in to beat Lallier again and put the Jacks up 7-4. The Jacks were able to run away with this game as they got three more goals in the third, they were from Tim Patten, Sean Murphy and Gary Laperle. The Jacks ended up winning the game 10-4 after being down 3-0 after one period. The Whalers had a solid first period but then penalties and fatigue ended up costing them the game.
