Nordiques Look To Get Back On Track Against Brewers
| ODDS: | Nordiques by 3 Goals |
| OVER/UNDER: | 10 Goals |
The Nordiques have been at a loss for words when they describe their offense. They have managed just a goal a game in the past 2 weeks, and 6 total in the past 3 weeks. This is coming from a team that scored more than 7 goals a game in 5 of the first 7 weeks.
The Brewers were embarrassed by Dead River last week 11-6. With only 3 wins this season, they sit in 5th out of 6 teams, but have some tools to win games. After loosing all of their offense last year in Nick "The Stick" Bayley, the Brewers need to regroup and focus on defense & goaltending.
The Nordiques have handily beaten the Brewers twice this season already, 10-4 and 7-3. The Nordiques have had their troubles this season but match up very well against an aging Brewers team.
Nordiques win it 7-3.
Brewers Can't Hold on to Early Lead, Lose 7-3.
The Brewers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in this one, but couldn\'t muster any additional offense as they gave up the next 7 goals in a devastating loss for the Brewer\'s franchise. On the brink of collapse the Brewer\'s management team was put on suicide watch after a 3-8-0 start.
The Nordiques were powered by Brian \"The Red-Bearded Step Child\" Racicot who scored 3 key goals including the game winner and Ian \"The Tooth Fairy\" Coates who added a pair of crucial goals. The Nordique\'s backstop Johnny \"Temper Tantrum\" Turner started the game off on the wrong foot by missing warm-ups and allowing a goal on his first shot and 3 goals on his first 5 shots. After the rough start, Turner settled into his typical shutdown style of goaltending, shutting out the Brewers on their next 33 shots for the win.
The Brewers were without their stud pipe protector, Matty \"Dr. McGlove\" Crowson who was out of town for the holidays, but had the Legendary B-Leaguer Jeremy Seidling filling in. This was Seidling\'s third game of the year in the UVHL, and was solid, keeping the game close until the Brewers threw defense out the window late in the 3rd period as the tried to generate offense.
It was a tough start to the game for Turner, Kelly \"The Mouth\" Park & Andy \"Pooch\" Puchilak. Turner gave up the first 3 goals and the defensive pairing of Park & Puchilak gave up a goal on each of their first 3 shifts. Brock \"The Bully\" Barton snapped a laser beam of a shot under the crossbar, glove side, after taking an Aaron \"Dr. McDangles\" Mancuso drop pass on a 3 on 2. Barton\'s goal came just 54 seconds into the game. Two shifts later, a 4 on 2 saw the Brewer\'s Cort Pomeroy stop just inside the blue line and fire a pass to the net where 3 players were crashing Turner\'s crease. The puck deflected off Chris \"Doobie\" Dubin\'s ass and into the net for a 2-0 lead at 12:26. On Park\'s next shift, a dump-in from center ice went off Park\'s glove and right onto the stick of a streaking Chris \"Little\" Johnson. Johnson broke in with speed on Turner, beating him 5-hole for a 3-0 lead and just over 5 minutes into the game. Park looked as if he was ready to slit his own throat, and Turner was about to implode, but the Nordiques turned the game around, shutting down the Brewers the rest of the way.
Ian \"The Tooth Fairy\" Coates finally broke through on Seidling with an unassisted goal at 5:57, opening the door for the Nords.
END OF THE FIRST: Nordiques 1, Brewers 3
The beginning of the second period saw some intense back and forth action, with both Turner & Seidling making timely and big saves. Racicot took a Puchilak pass down low behind the net before curling out to the far face-off dot and surprising Seidling with a quick shot right along the ice and inside the near post. \"Who the hell shoots from there,\" recalled Seidling \"I just wasn\'t expecting that at all...great shot though.\" I guess Seidling doesn\'t see those types of shots in the B-League! Less than a minute later Coates tied the game on a funny bounce off the end boards after Roger \"The Rusty Dentist Drill\" Phillips let one rip from 40 feet out. Phillip\'s shot hit the backboards and came out on the other side of the net right onto Coates\' stick for the tally.
Racicot took the lead on a delayed penalty call to Barton just 44 seconds later after Barton hooked the shit out of Jordan \"The Mick\" McGee. Racicot jammed home the rebound, smiled and said \"I love cleaning up garbage...at home, in the street, at the rink, in my car...anywhere really. I love garbage, I even bathe in garbage once a week.\"
END OF THE SECOND: Nordiques 4, Brewers 3
The Nordiques had to kill off a Tommy \"The Minister of Defense\" Dakai checking penalty with 6:17 to play. Dakai leaned in a little bit too hard on Chris Johnson along the near boards...but who\'s kidding, even Johnson\'s own team mates want to hit him too. Shortly after killing off the penalty, Racicot struck again, completing his hat trick on a brilliant pass from Jimmy Kerrigan. Kerrigan got the puck at the far point, froze Seidling with a wind up and feathered a slapshot pass to Racicot at the near faceoff dot. Racicot settled the puck and fired a quick high shot inside the near post.
Kelly \"The Mouth\" Park made it 6-3 on the next shift with the luckiest goal of his career. With McGee carrying the puck down the far boards, Park & Pierce \"May-Day\" Mayhew crashed the net. McGee tried airmailing a pass to Park on the far post but the puck deflected off of a defender. Park closed his eyes and swung at the puck, batting it out of mid air and roofing it past a diving Seidling. Park raised his arms as if he had just scored the overtime game winner in the 7th game of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Phillips added his another goal with 1:52 to play from Puchilak to close out the scoring for the game. The Brewers let up 3 goals in the last 3:18 to play, leaving Seidling out to dry.
END OF REGULATION: Nordiques 7, Brew Crew 3
The Nordiques weathered through the early onslaught by the Brewers and came out on top. The only high hope for the Brewers is that they finished at .500 last season and still won the Whalen cup. They will need a miracle to turn this season around. The Nords are still trying to figure out who they are, they are capable of putting up 12 goals a night against the poor teams, but then follow up with 3 dismal offensive games.
