Nordiques Get Revenge, Thump Brewers 10-4

After getting beat up by the Brewers 5-3 in the championship game last season, the new look Nordiques wanted to enact a bit of revenge against the new-look Brewers. Both teams have lost some key components from last season, but the bottom line is the Brewers won the big game, and no regular season win for the Nordiques will ever take that away. The Nordiques started the season without one of their most important players, League Founder & Defensive Gem Shawn \"McDefense\" McDermott who is battling Kidney Cancer. The Nords may have been energized by their fallen team mate as they dedicated the game to Shawn in the locker room. This was actually a close game in the first, with both teams controlling the play and getting quality scoring chances. The Nordique\'s Johnny \"Temper Tantrum\" Turner & the Brewer\'s Greg \"First Period\" Feiden made big saves in the first to keep their teams in it. Feiden was filling in net for the Brewers as their starting goaltender, Matty \"The Eagle\" Crowson was out of town at a cross-dressers convention in San Francisco. The first period saw the Nordiques jump out to a 2-0 lead late behind an Ian \"The Grin\" Coates tally with 5:35 followed by a Brian \"The Mute\" Racicot rebound goal with 3 minutes to go. Both goals were assisted by Pierce Mayhew who also picked up two goals in his first game in the UVHL. Brian Smith cut the lead in half with 10 seconds to go as he took a backdoor pass from Brock \"Beefcake\" Barton on a well played two on one. END OF THE FIRST: Nordiques 2, Brewers 1 It may have been one of the following or both, but it seemed as though the Nordiques turned it up a notch in the 2nd period and/or the Brewers started to become fatigued. Regardless of the reasons, the Nordiques added 3 more goals in the period behind their new line MMR line of Mayhew, Jordy McGee & Racicot. All 3 players scored and with McGee picking up 2 assists & Racicot also getting a helper. The Brew Crew cut the lead down to 5-2 again late in a period when Chris Dubin split the defense with a pass to Aarron \"Man Child\" Mancuso who broke in all alone on Turner and made Turner his bitch with a quick move to his backhand. END OF THE SECOND: Nordiques 5, Brewers 2 The 3rd period saw the game double in score from 5-2 to 10-4. The Nordiques poured it on with a pair of goals from Greg \"The Butcher of Norwich\" Marsh & Kelly \"First Gear\" Park. Marsh\'s 2nd tally was a 60 foot slapshot inside the far post on Feiden while Park may have reached 2nd gear on a nice breakaway pass from Coates where he completely mishandled the puck only to see it slide into the net. \"I\'m a goal scorer said Park, that\'s my new move, make the goalie think I lose the puck, but that is the ultimate sign of a puck handling genius!\" Another highlight of the third period was a one on one battle between boss & employee. The Nordique\'s Pierce Mayhew works under the Brewer\'s Brock Barton at DHMC counting beans. Barton, a defenseman, was stripped at his own blueline only to see Pierce walk in on Feiden all alone to put the Nord\'s up 9-3. The Brewers tallied two goals against Turner from Billy \"The Kid\" Fletcher & Jason Yehle. END OF REGULATION: Nordiques 10, Brewers 4 The bottom line, the Nordiques had something to prove. They may have been powered by the loss of team mate McDermott, their youth could also be a major factor, OR the Brewers could have been suffering from dreaded WHALEN CUP HANGOVER. Turner was good enough for the win, and the Nord\'s line of Mayhew-McGee-Racicot was nothing short of brilliant as they potted 5 goals & 12 points between them.
