#6 Tuck @ #3 Whalers
| ODDS: | Whales By 2 Goals |
| OVER/UNDER: | 10 Goals |
The Whalers are surging, they took down and RUINED a perfect season for the Gamblers with an impressive 3-0 win last week. They seem to be the real deal and have shed the branding of the perennial UVHL bottom feeders.
Tuck has had roster issues all season long and tonight should be no different as some of their players need to work around night classes in order to make it to the rink.
The Whalers closed out the season with 4 straight wins, all in dominant fashion, outscoring their opponents 27-9.
The Whalers have also taken 3 of 4 from Tuck in the season series and will continue their domination through the first round with a 6-4 win.
Whalers Advance With 6-4 Win Over Tuck
The Whalers move on to the Semi-Finals with a solid win over Tuck tonight. A close game, as advertised, but much closer than the final score would assume. Tuck & the Whalers battled in a close game, trading goals for the first 25 minutes of play and a one goal game 40 minutes before the Whalers broke it open late.
Kenny \"Dirty Old Goalie\" Lallier was dialed in yet again stopping 29 of 32 shots for the win, but it was another old-timer, Scotty \"Too Hotty\" Shaw, who inspired his time for the win. Shaw recorded a hat trick, scoring a goal in each period, and added an assist for the first star of the game.
Of course Shaw had some help. \"Jumbo\" Joe Gaudet had a pair of goals and an assist in his first career playoff game. Gary \"The Pearl Necklace\" Laperle had a goal and an assist and Zach \"Can\'t Catch A Pass\" Aher had a goal and assist.
Shaw opened the scoring just two minutes into the game from Johnny \"Slow or Stalled\" Stallsmith. Tuck responded late in the period on a Cherney to Harrington to McCafferty connection. The CHuM line(CHM) was responsible for all three goals for Tuck 8 of the total 9 points for Tuck. Everytime the CHuM line stepped on the ice they created offense.
The Whaler\'s retook the lead on Gaudet\'s first of the night from Aher only to see Tuck respond on McCafferty\'s second of the night just over a minute later.
Laperle put the Whalers up for good two minutes later from Shaw & Gaudet
Shaw got his second goal with only 10 seconds left in the second from Pierce and Kirt \"Big\" Johnson for the eventual game winning goal.
Tuck made it interesting by scoring in the first minute of the third on a goal from who else but the CHuM line, Harrington from McCafferty and Cherney and the game remained close for the next 9 minutes, in a chess match type game.
There were only 12 total shots in the third due to the defensive style of play. Nobody wanted to make a mistake and everyone was playing with their sphincters tightened. Shaw notched the hat trick with 5 minutes remaining, unassisted and Gaudet got the double insurance goal with 2 minutes left.
This was a great game to watch and Tuck should be proud with their effort. The Whalers deserved the win with 45 minutes of complete hockey and move on to play the Brewers in the semi-finals next week.

I, for one, was bummed that we drew Tuck in the first round and they definitely brought it as expected. Only a few late goals made the score look like we had it in hand. It was a clean game too, which certainly made McD's solo reffing duties a lot easier.
For the second year in a row, the Whale is on to the next round! (Btw, was this the first time the Whale has ever been a home team for a playoff game!?) |
