Brewers Rough Up Nordiques 4-1

The #2 Brewers hosted the #3 Nordiques for their third matchup of the season. Splitting the first two games made this a highly talked about event throughout the entire state of Vermont and parts of Guatemala.

The Brewers walked all over the Nordiques in their last meeting, thrashing them 7-4, in a game that was heavily tilted in favor of the Brew Crew.

The Nordiques fate was pretty much the same in this one, despite carrying a scoreless tie into the second period, the Brewers were the more aggressive team carrying play and getting the better scoring chances throughout the game.

END OF THE FIRST: SCORELESS

The scoreless tie continued for nearly an additional 10 minutes into the second period before the Brewers broke through on Kenny "La Glove" Lallier who was filling in for the Nordique's goaltending stalwart Johnny "Temper Tantrum" Turner who was rehabbing in China. Rookie Jason Mikola jammed home a rebound from Garren "Teed Penalty" Poirer with 5:17 to play in the second. Things were all downhill from that point forward for the Nordiques as Chris "Doobie" Dubin went post and in with a high-winder slapper from the far faceoff dots just 63 seconds after Mikola's goal. 57 seconds later Poirier picked a Nordique turnover at center ice with speed, burned the Nordique's Kelly "Plus Minus Nightmare" Park at the tops of the circles and beat Lallier with a quick move to his backhand across the crease.

END OF THE SECOND: Brewers 3, Nordiques 0

Poirier added to his first star & Player Of the Week nomination with only 13 ticks gone in the third with a bomb from the point that went through a screen along the ice and beat Lallier 5-hole. Poirier then decided to complete the "Gordie Howe Hattrick" with a fight in one of the most hypocritical actions the UVHL has seen. Poirier, who is currently the all-time career Penalty Minutes Record Holder with 231, and who had already amassed three tripping minors in this game was hooked by Park. Poirier retaliated with a punch to the back of the head, screamed "YOU HOOKED ME!!!!" dropped a glove and sucker punched Park in the face. The two proceeded to fight, being ejected for the game and the next and Poirier took home an instigator to boot.

The Nordiques finally broke through on the ensuing 4 minute powerplay when Eric "The Kriz" Krivitzky took a pass from Poli "The Nightmare" Nightengale and beat the Brewer's Matty "Spazzy" Albertazzi. Tazzy's only blemish on an otherwise exceptional night where he stopped 27 of 28 and making at least 7 or 8 big saves to keep the game tied.

END OF REGULATION: Brewers 4, Nordiques 1

The Brewers have had a history of dominating the Nordiques over the past few seasons, and carried that into tonight's action. If the Nordiques are going to be successful against the Brewers, they will need to play smarter...not sure if that will happen.
