Nords surprise with 3rd Period comeback

I'm not gonna recount every goal, I can't remember them all that well when I play in the game so you'll have to go to the scoresheet to see the details, but I can definitely summarize the events. Here is how it went: the Brewers DOMINATED early, won just about every loose puck, forced themselves to the front of the net, got some good bounces, and capitalized on them. The Nords were shellshocked after having a 1-0 lead halfway through on Park's goal only to see it eclipsed in a 3 minute span after Mancuso scored a key unassisted shorty, and Lazarczyk and Johnson found holes through crowds to put the puck in the back of the Nords net. First period shots were 8 on Turner, and 6 on Crowson, and the Brewers had a 3-1 lead. JT was PISSED about the shorty and the fact his team was getting owned by the Brewers who had only 9 players.

CJ scored his second of the game, and it was the only entry on the scoresheet for the middle period. Shots were 8 per side. This period was played pretty even, and the Nords were encouraged just from not getting crushed. Turner cheered his team on at the break and believed in a possible comeback and character win as the playoffs loom in the not too distant future.

The Nords scored 5 unanswered goals in the third to make the comeback a reality, including an empty netter with 14 seconds left. momentum changed and the Nords started just by getting to loose pucks and workiing harder. perhaps this tired out a short Brewers bench, perhaps the Nords just got some bounces. Post game a Brewers player said that "your goalie stepped it up BIG in the third period". Poli Nightingale started it off with a clutch goal just over 3 minutes into the third, and then Jordan McGee followed up less than 2 minutes later to make it 4-3 Brewers and the Nords started to believe. The Brewers never quit or rolled over, but mcGee tied it up with 6:45 to go and the battle continued. Roger Phillips got the go ahead goal with about 4 minutes left, and when time ticked down the Brewers called a timeout and pulled Crowson with just over a minute to go. The Nords, directed by their goalie, played smart defensively and got a loose puck that Pierce Mayhew sent to a streaking McGee down the ice fo rthe empty netter tosecure the comeback.

Final Score: Nords 6, Brewers 4 - including empty netter

Final Tally: Jordan McGee had one of the best periods in UVHL history with 3G, 2A in 11.5 minutes; Poli Nightingale started the comeback with herat, grit, and a key goal and assist; Kelly Park had 1G, 1A. Chris Johnson led his team early and dominated 2 periods with 2G giving the Brewers a big 2 goal lead and momentum heading into the third. I must note that Chris Dubin was scoreless during the game, and scoreless at the bar post-game with 60 sorority girls packing the place. It seems that Dubin's best moves are on the ice...

Final Analysis: The Nords actually DO have some heart, and they were led on the scoresheet by Jordan McGee, but in truth they were sparked by the play and effort of Poli Nightingale to find it in them to force a 3rd period comeback. JT was the consumate professional and played great battling through some tough goals to keep his team in it until they found the will to win. The Brewers dominated the first, had the slight edge in the second, and then were perhaps hurt by a short bench in the third. I'm not sure what happened, but the Brewers sure didn't just roll over and die cuz they played hard all game, and the bounces started going the other way after the Brewers used up all theirs on their first 4 goals. Honeslty, the Nords would have been extatic just to send the game into a shootout and get a point, but he regulation win was huge for their team psyche.

See you on the ice!
