Nords exact revenge on Avs and gain First Place on 11/21!

Both teams were looking forward to this re-match after the Avs defeated the Nords in Week #3 to go 3-0 for the first time in their UVHL franchise history. The Nords were without some key players on that night, but never offer any excuses. This night the Avs were without their medical madmen as Thanksgiving week afforded them a brief vacation away from their rigorous academic environment, and one of the very best goaltenders in the league and two of the top 10 scorers headed for home. The Avs were missing their top line of Dr. McSelfish Nick Bayley (who has about 20 goals and 3 assists), Dr Set-Up Christain Isaac, and the Puck Poet himself (who composed a beautiful sonnet about his linemate slamming this author for dubbing him McSelfish) veteran digger Jay Campion, AND star goalie Pete Bartline, and the Avs were also without heart and soul veteran Al Sorrentino. Whatever! So far its even-up between these two teams and neither game really reflected the depth or talent of either roster, so it is fitting both squads come out of it 1-1. The Nords started off the scoring early at 13:45 on Will Meyer's goal from Greg Marsh and Kelly Park. Linemates Mike O'Neil, Marsh, and Park connected for a goal on O'Neils' marker at 11:45 and were the most dangerous line all night. Nords D Pete Otto was called for interference at 9:58, but the Nords killed it off. Only 9 seconds into the second O'Neil scored an unassisted goal on a forced turnover on alternate goalie Matt Albertazzi at 14:51. Guest player and friend of JT, pro Martin Wilde, joined the Avs bench part way through the game and made his presence known answering O'Neil's goal 40 seconds later at 14:11 from Travis Coe against his buddy JT. Nords captain Tao Smith didn't lead by example by giong to the box at 7:05 for interference, but the Nords killed that one off, too. Marshy's line continued to be hot this night, and he scored with 1:11 to go in the second to make it 4-1 Nords from O'Neil and defenseman Drew Crapser. Early in the third the Nords entered the Avs zone and both the Nords' attacking player with the puck and the Avs defending player went down in a heap, but not before the Nords F was taken down, and the ref's arm went up. Everyone thought it was a penalty being called on the Avs, including the Avs. JT scooted to the Nords bench, and the Nords controlled the play INSIDE the Avs zone, with the puck on their stick and several passes being made and there was NO WHISTLE. THEN the Avs got control, even goaltender Matt Albertazzi gained control of the puck behind his own net and played it, and there was NO WHISTLE. Realizing something was wrong JT hopped back out to defend the Nords net and the Nords were assesed a "Too Many Men on the Ice" penalty. WHAT THE FUCK? Supposedly the ref's arm went up for an OFFSIDE, NOT a penalty. Okay, then why the hell was the play not blown dead while the Nords controlled the puck inside the Avs zone? Why fuck was the play not blown dead when the Avs got control of the puck inside their zone and the Nords did not leave the zone? We still have no idea. All we know is that the Nords were one man down and their proverbial team asshole was sore after getting screwed on that one. No apology from the refs, no "Sorry, I screwed that one up" and lets have a face-off at center ice, and no superior ref overruling the call, NOTHING. This seriously changed the momentum of the game, and no matter who got the short end of the stick this never should have happened in a UVHL game. God forbid this happens in the playoffs or Whalen Cup Final. The Nords sent Poli Nightingale to serve the penalty at 13:32, and the Avs scored on the ensuing PP on a shot by Wilde that found its way through JT off a feed from Hank Bouchard at 11:50 to make it a closer game 4-2 in favor of the Nords, but with momentum clearly in favor of the Avs. At 11:36 Nords D Shawn McDermott (aka fat bastard) took an interference penalty pinching one off (Avs Captain Mike Hickey - again) along the boards just outside the Avs blueline to prevent a 2-on-1 or partial breakaway, and the Avs scored again to make it 4-3 at 10:27 on Brian Walsh's PPG from Sean McCabe. Suddenly this was a close game after the depleted Avs line-up was getting frustrated at the dominance of the Nordiques before Wilde graced their bench with his presence. With only 4:20 left there was a scrum that sent 2 Nords and 1 Av to the box. Coe went for a bodycheck, and Smith and Willis went for roughing. The Avs had another third period advantage with a 4-on-3, but luckily the Avs PP was ruined only 33 seconds in after Walsh took a hooking minor at 3:47. With only a brief man advantage and 6 seconds left in it, the Nords capitalized to re-gain momentum and a two goal lead at 1:53 on Meyer's insurance PPG from Crapser. Nords Captain Tao Smith got the insurance goal to seal the deal at 0:35 from linemate Willis.
