Nordiques snow-in light Avalanche squad 7-3.

Where would the Nords be without Will Meyer? TIED, that's where. Meyer's 4 goal game was the difference in the Nords victory over a depleted Avs squad that has really started to play as a team and do some damage in the UVHL standings. The Avs were without playmaking rover Captain Sean McCabe (out of town for work) and tenacious center Sean Hochreiter (recently married - congrats!), and center Brian Beniot (no excuse!), but pulled together rallying around the superb goaltending of Jim Beraldi who has quickly become a solid UVHL regular in a short time. The Nords were without three defenseman as Tom Dakai, Mike O'Neil and Ben Robbins all took the night off. Meyer started the game on fire with a first period Natural Hat Trick beginning only 16 seconds into the game from center Ian Coates and defenseman Kelly Park. Meyer then connected with Dan Coffey and Coates at 10:23 for his second goal. Avs D Kevin Calder was called for hooking at 9:30 but the Avs defended well. Al Sorrentino went to the box for the Avs at 7:19 for bodychecking and Meyer completed the Natural on the PP at 5:47 from linemate Dan Jones and Park. Late in the first Chris Johnson went to the box for tripping at 1:42, and the Nords PP was spoiled by Dyke Shaw's holding minor at 0:48. The Avs received another minor for tripping in the second at 11:13, this time it was Henry Bouchard in the box, but the Avs got a nice shorty and finally solved JT at 9:29 when Jami James was fed by Al Sorrentino off a Nords turnover. Hardworking Jason Gaudette scored for the Nords to answer the shorty at 8:26 from linemates Dyke Shaw and Deanna McDevitt, who were all having a strong game. Offsetting minors at 7:20 went to Marcus Ericson (bodychecking) and Kelly Park (hooking) as both players needed to cool off after an altercation in the Avs corner. The Natural, Will Meyer, added to his totals with an unassisted goal at 6:51 that was answered by the Avs own Brian Leetch-like Ed Sheehan pouncing on a rebound as the Nords looked on at 5:01 from a Fred McNutt close range shot and Henry Bouchard assist to make it 5-2 for the Nords. Both goalies played exceptionally well in this game and turned away many shots and rebounds at both ends. In the third the Nords started early scoring two quick goals to put the game out of reach for good with Dan Jones scoring at 13:52 from linemates Meyer and Coates, and then Greg Marsh keeping his point streak alive at 12:18 from Nords Captain Tao Smith and linemate Dave Willis. Smith, who had AT LEAST 5 point-blank chances to score on Beraldi, FINALLY got on the scoresheet after being set up time after time from Marsh and Willis. Poli Nightingale may well be demoted to another line on his return after the strong play of the big Marsh-Willis-Smith line seeing Smith move to wing and Marsh to center that created many scoring chances for the Nords, but Beraldi rejected all but one of them in the Avs net. The remainder of the third saw a few penalties to the Avs with Calder at 5:33 for tripping and Caleb Hawley in the box for cross checking at 4:09, but the Nords did not capitalize on the 5-on-3. JT was looking to improve his GAA if not for a late goal by the Avs' Marcus Ericson who was sprung on a breakaway by linemates Jami James and Aaron Guyette at 1:59 to make it 7-3. Brian Racicot received a minor for tripping at 1:33 for the Nords, but JT continued his strong play in net and stopped all chances on the Avs PP to leave the Nords with a 4 goal lead thanks to The Natural, Will Meyer.
