Quarter Finals - #5 Whalers @ #4 Cardigan

OVER/UNDER:	10 Goals

Cardigan has owned the Whalers this season winning 3 of the 4 games they've played and losing the 4th in an 8-7 barn burner. Every game has actually been pretty much a barn burner as the lowest scoring game was an 8-5 Cardigan win in October and the biggest disaster was a 12-10 Cardigan win on February 5th. So defense has never....um...the...priority in these games. I can't imagine that this one will be any more defensive than the first 4, and the fact that cardigan only has 5 skaters for tomorrow night's game does not fare well for both their outcome and defensive play. The outcome is also heavily affected by what players show up for the Whalers. They are a completely different team with "Jumbo" Joe Gaudet than they are without him. They have also had roster issues all season as their top offensive players tend to miss games frequently. If Cardigan can muster at least 7 players and one of them is Owen Carpino, who leads the league with 48 goals in 16 games, they will make this one interesting. Cardigan can NOT get out to their typical slow start or else the hole they dig may be too deep. With this being a playoff game and players being more fearful to make a mistake that will end their season, this should be a lower scoring game. Whalers should win this one 6-4.

I would have preferred the earlier time, since it was available, but I assume there's an issue that I'm not aware of. Thanks, Stally

We plan on finishing much higher than that by the time this is all said and done. If you want to set your sights on third, go right ahead. Finished the REGULAR season in 5th. Obviously...we would have loved to win most of our games this year, and finished first. But..we're happy with 3rd at the moment, and refining our game, and concentrating on D this week will get us ready to face our 2nd rd. opponent whoever it may be. The fact Cardigan may only have 6-7 guys play, might give you guys an edge going into tonight, but beyond that will have to be a miracle like last year. If we get beat by Tuck next week, we'll at least go down giving it our all...like I said, good luck...I mean that in the most sincere way Stally

Good luck tonight! It was too bad Cardigan wasn't able to get a full contingent out there, but the guys that showed definitely skated hard and it was a spirited scrimmage. While it might not have counted for standings, I was still disappointed we couldn't take the win. Marshy, as far as the game time, I had always thought opening night of the playoffs went 3v6, 4v5, scrimmage. I might have confused that with the semifinals which are usually 1-seed, 2-seed, scrimmage, or perhaps it was just that way one year and I assumed that was the process.
