The Whalers & Dead River both enter week two without and win, and unless Hurricane Sandy cancels this game, one of them will remain winless. Dead River looks to be that team after starting the season with a -13 goal differential, only scoring 5 and allowing 18. The Whalers haven't faired much better with an 8-5 loss to Cardigan followed by a 7-4 loss to the Gamblers. The Whalers are a better team both offensive & defensively and their goaltender, Kenny "Old Man Quechee" Lallier, can steal a game here or there. Dead River has the advantage in net with Matty "The Eagle" Crowson, but a poor defensive team in front of him has limited his effectiveness. The Whalers should walk away with this one 8-3.

Whalers Get First Win With 6-3 Win Over Dead River

Both the Whalers & Dead River came into week 3 with an 0-2-0 record. The Whalers are the reigning Whalen Cup Champions and have been playing like a last place team letting up 15 goals in their first two games. Team Manager/Captain/Massage Boy/ Whipping Boy/Mustache Ride Giver Kenny \"Le Mustache\" Lallier would need to be better in this one to get a win. The lovable Whalers and their \"Hey, everyone makes the playoffs\" mentality has gotten them into a hole. Tonight they brought only 7 players, possibly in an attempt to get back to the basics. Possibly because there was a hurricane yesterday that had absolutely ZERO effect on the Upper Valley in VT. Either way, the Whalers Seven played a solid game for the win. Dead River welcomed three new players to their roster who added some youth and talent. That youth movement has them pointed in the right direction, but it took a couple periods before Dead River felt comfortable going down 4-0 pretty quickly. They battled back, scoring 3 goals in the game, but still fell 6-3.

NOTE: Whalers play with only 7 skaters

NOTE: Crowson making some huge saves early.

WHL 1-0 - Woody Redpath cuts across the crease, goes 5-hole on Matty \"The Eagle\" Crowson

WHL 2-0 - Pass across the crease - 5-hole

WHL 3-0 - 12 seconds later, Pierce enters the zone and fires a pass across the circle tops to Joe Gaudet who one times it past Crowson who didn\'t even have a chance to react.

END OF THE FIRST: Whalers 3, Dead River 0

NOTE: Crowson makes a huge pad save in the first minute of the second period

WHL 4-0 - Rebound gets kicked out to Zanleoni at just past the hashmarks on the far side, one times the puck along the ice inside the near post

NOTE: Crowson makes two HUGE saves on Pierce & Gaudet with about 2 minutes to play. The first was a backdoor pass, the second was point blank.

WHL 5-1 - Gaudet gets a breakaway pass from Crapser, beats Crowson 5-hole.

DR 2-5 - Hotaling with speed into the Whalers zone on the near boards, cuts behind the net pulling everyone with him but drops a nifty pass to Matt Scott on the near post before heading behind the net

DR 3-5 - Kyle Koetsier cuts low to goal line and jumps to front of net, Justin Beebe cleans up the garbage

WHL 6-3 - Woody Redpath sends \"Jumbo\" Joe Gaudet in all alone, dekes backhand to forehand, 5-HOLIO BITCH!
