Lumberjacks Fall to Gamblers 5-3

NEW: Video Recap below

The Gamblers have owned the Lumberjacks this season, taking all 3 games including tonight's 5-3 showdown.  Both teams were without some key members, but it was one key addition to the Gambler's squad that drastically affected the outcome.  The Gamblers brought on current Ohio State Buckeye hockey player, Tate Singleton, who had a goal and 3 apples, while playing at 47% speed.

"I didn't even break a sweat, but it was fun playing with this bunch of benders.  They had that big slow goon out there, his name was like 'Zamboni' or something.  He was number 19, total trash." is probably what Singleton would have said, had we had the chance to interview him.

Rumor has it that Singleton owed money to Gambler's CEO / Team Captain Will "The Thrill" Meyer who threatened to Tonya Harding him, unless he played in this one game for the Gamblers.

Singleton had chemistry with linemates Ryan "Goose" LaCroix(2 goals) and Max Woods(1g, 2a).  The trio combined for 4 of the Gamblers 5 goals and helped to outpace the Lumberjacks who were powered by Jordy "McBreakaway" McGee.  McGee was a one man show, contributing on all 3 of the  Jacks goals, but was clearly missing his Potato Gang linemates, Patrick McDonough & Neil MacKenzie.

McGee opened the scoring on the first shift on a nifty drop pass by Aiden Yates who sent McGee into the Lumberjacks zone with speed, beating Luke "The Duke" McCormick top shelf, where mama hides the cookies.

Max Woods set up Singleton for a one-timer from the high slot with 10:50 to play to tie the game, before Singleton did the same for Goose LaCroix, feathering a pass through a trio of Lumberjacks to LaCroix coming down the slot for a 2-1 lead with 4:46 to play in the first.

There wasn't a ton of shots  in the first, with each goaltender only required to make 7 saves in the fist  period, but it was a turnove by Singleton with 20 seconds to go that sent McGee in all alone on Ryan "The Liberator" Libbey.  McGee did a lookie-loo, forehand to back hand, back to his forehand and five-holio on McCormick for the goal to tie the game at 2 apiece with 14 seconds to play.

END OF THE FIRST:  Game tied at 2.  SAVES: Libbey(LMJ) 7 - McCormick(GMB) 7

The Gamblers scored the only goal of the second period on a gorgeous backhand sauce pass from Singleton that split the Lumberjacks defense and sprung LaCroix in with two defenders breathing down his back.  Libbey made the first save, but couldn't stop the rebound that LaCroix  tucked behind him just 2:13 into the second frame.

The Lumberjacks carried play, putting 15 shots on McCormick who stood tall, but couldn't beat the big Minnesotan.

END OF THE SECOND: Gamblers 3, Lumberjacks 2.  SAVES: McCormick(GMB) 22, Libbey(LMJ) 17

Nick "The Stick" Hall tied the game just 1:11 into the first after McGee circled the zone before cutting to the slot and putting a shot on McCormick.  Hall was patiently waiting to McCormick's right and jamming home the rebound on his second attempt.

Meyer broke the tie 2 minutes later on a partial breakaway from Ray "May Day" Nolan.  Singleton finished his night a couple minutes later after dangling into the slot through two Lumberjacks and dropping a pass to Woods who deposited a backhander into the empty net for the insurance goal with 9:42 to play.

"Filthy mits." is all the Lumberjack's captain and resident goon, Jay "Zamboni" Zanleoni, had to say about Singleton.   "Filthy Mits."

The last 10 minutes saw the Lumberjacks pressing, but without any luck.  There was a glimmer of hope with 1:27 to play after the  Gambler's Ben Perron took a holding call, but the Gamblers packed it in and protected the net and their goaltender very well.

FINAL:  Gamblers 5, Lumberjacks 3.  SAVES: McCormick(GMB) - 29, Libbey(LMJ) - 30
