Blues turn things around with a route of the Whalers.

It was pure domination from the Labatt Blues to start.  The Whalers were out-played, out-skilled, out-hustled and just play awful.  It's going to be a very long season for the Whalers unless they make some changes.  The Blues were cycling, making quick passes and moving so much better than the Whalers from the initial puck drop.  They started the game by outshooting the Whalers 6-0 in the opening minutes before The Whaler's Luke McCormick took a weak dump in and beat two Blues players for a partial breakaway down the near side.  McCormick fired a quick snapper from just inside left circle to beat Jon Hall low glove side.  First shot on net for the Whalers.  It was all downhill from there.

Anthony Matterazzo had a chance to tie the game up late in the first period but threw the puck over an empty net.

A turnover by the Whaler’s in the offensive zone turned into a quick transition up ice by Ray “Big Spruce” Sprague to Keith “Bubba” Lazarczyk.  Bubba made a quick pass to Stephen Hamilton heading through the neutral zone with speed.  The Whalers defense backed up allowing Hamilton to enter the zone and cut across the blue line before hitting Sam Major coming down the near side.  Major took the pass off his skate and fired a bad angle shot from outside the face-off dot and below the circle that beat Tucker “Short Side” Garrity-Hanchett….on the short side.

End of the first Whalers 1, Blues 1.  SHOTS: Blues 17 - Whalers 6

The Blues fifth shot of the 2nd period produced a goal after Aaron Murray made a nice rush up the near boards and centered a pass to Kyle Richards.  Tucker "THG" Garrity-Hanchett made the first save, but Richards got his own rebound and put it in the empty net.

Whalers got the opportunity to go on the power play after a Ray Sprague penalty and it was 2 minutes of sheer ineptitude, although Ryan Longfield did intercept an errant D to D pass from the Blues and couldn’t convert his partial breakaway.

3-1 - Stephen Hamilton worked it down to Tyler White behind the Whalers Net.  Hamilton then rotated out to the front, some botched defensive play and Hamilton was all alone to get the return pass from White, pull it to his backhand and lift it over TGH.

Jon Hall stops Bentley Boonyaharn on a breakaway with 4 mins to play

Longfield had a breakaway with 25 seconds in the 2nd and missed high glove side.

END OF TWO - Blues 3, Whalers 1 - SHOTS: Blues 32, Whalers 14

4-1 Just over a minute and a half in it was the Kyle Richards show as he dipsy-do’d and dangled his way around 3 Whalers defenders before launching a gorgeous 15 foot airmail pass to Clark for the backdoor goal.

5-1 Labatt’s after a horrible turnover by Chuck Gaede deep in his zone as Richard’s swiped the puck off his stick towards the goal where TGH was napping.  The puck glanced off TGH’s skate and Richards jammed it home.

5-2 Whalers get a lucky bounce after a good rush by Teddy down the near boards.  He gets steered wide and is able to jam the puck to the net where Nate Robinson is waiting for the loose puck.

6-2 - Whaler’s turnover in the offensive zone.  Richards picked Bentley clean and flipped a breakaway pass that landed right on TJ’s stick with speed.  He walked in all alone and beat TGH five-hole

7-2 - Long pass to TJ from Clark behind his own goal line.  TJ tips to Richards who goes down the far side, below the near face-off dot and just inside it and snaps an NHL caliber shot over Tucker’s shoulder….short side.

8-2 - with a 5 on 3 pp, the Blues moved the puck around and got a shot from Rick from the right point.  Hamilton jammed at the rebound and punched the puck through the crease to White on the back door.

FINAL: Blues 8 - Whalers 2.  SHOTS: Blues 54 - Whalers 24
