Nordiques Welcome Lumberjacks to UVHL

The Lumberjacks are the newest franchise in the UVHL, but bring some familiar faces to Union Arena. The core of Jordy "McBreakaway" McGee(Nordiques), Marc "The Narc" Gattie(Gamblers) and Jay "Zamboni" Zanleoni all defected from other teams last year, leaving big holes in order to give the UVHL a sixth team this year.

McGee gets the pleasure of playing for his old team. A team that he scored 30% of the goals for a season ago. The Nordiques have filled that gaping hole with Jamie "Han" Solon, who left Dead River after scoring 25% of his teams goals in just 9 games last season.

The Lumberjacks bring some new blood to the UVHL this season so there is a big question mark about the depth, skill & even roster size of the 'Jacks. With that being said, you can't discount the talent of McGee, Gattie & Zanleoni...nor the ability of Gary "The Pearl" LaPerle to ride the pine and provide timely wisdom to his team mates.

The trio of Gattie, McGee & Zanleoni scored more goals(42) than the entire Nordiques team, minus McGee, all of last year(40). EDGE: LUMBERJACKS

The Jacks will have the solid goaltending of Zach "Cousin" Lary while the Nords have the consistent and steady Johnny "Temper Tantrum" Turner protecting their crease. EDGE goes to youth: LUMBERJACKS.

Defense....ah, who gives a shit...it's Men's League. EDGE: NONE.

This should be a good game. Lumberjacks walk away with a win in this one...5-4.

Tonight the Nords welcomed the newest team to the league. The play was very even with each team pushing back at one another with neither team being too aggressive. The Nords were the first to get on the board at 6:40 into the period with a goal from Pierce Mayhew who got some help from his new teammate James Solon (who came over from Dead River now Ramuntos). The remainder of the period saw the Nords starting to get stronger and the Jacks still trying to find the team chemistry.

The second period saw the Nords dominating the offensive end. About two and half minutes into the second period the Nords went D to D to D before Kelly Park sprung his partner Adrien Melrose up the far boards. Melrose continued into the Jacks zone going by the D and sniping Zach Lary short side up high. This was one of the prettiest goals of the night. The Nords continued to pressure the Jacks and which eventually lead to two power plays for the Nords. Lary stood on his head for his team and had a 16 save second period.

The second penalty from the second period (Jay Zanleoni for interference) carried over to the beginning of the third and the Nords took advantage as they finally capitalized on a power play opportunity. The PP goal was scored Billy Sailer with help from Pierce Mayhew and James Solon at 14:39 of the period. The Nords continued to play hard with not much push back from the Jacks and about two minutes later the Nords got there fourth goal of the night as Park shot from the point and hit a Jack in front of the net and it went right on to the stick of James Solon who put it past Lary for a commanding 4-0 lead. There was something about the fourth goal that woke the Jacks up. Captain Marc Gattie was leading the way on the ice and got the Lumberjacks first ever goal unassisted at 10:07 to give them some confidence. The Jacks continued to push back which lead to there second goal of the night from Marc Gattie. Penalties continued to be an issue for the Lumberjacks as they received their third which stopped all momentum they had going. The Nords were able to score one more goal from Stuart Grande to cap it off with a 5-2 win.

This game was closer then the score indicated, the Nords looked better as the game progressed while the Jacks struggled to find their team chemistry. Give the Jacks a few weeks and the talented youth will be a threat.

Very tempting. My only goal is to make Jordy McGee absolutely miserable tonight. We are going to play the trap whenever he's on the ice. We also brought on a couple of goons to keep him honest! KP
