Whalers Still Perfect After Tuck Shutout.

Whalers 3, Tuck 0 — The Fenom Solves Showtime (Twice) While Condon Packs a Lunch

Wednesday, Oct 29 • 9:25 PM • WABA – White River Junction, VT

The Whalers rolled in at 2–0–0 after a gritty 2–1 over the Gamblers. Tuck (0–1–1) arrived in “what if we just rebuild?” mode and handed the crease back to Evan “Showtime” Cline after Bill “Over the Hill” Lockwood’s last outing (great despite the number). Cline was terrific… but he drew the short straw known as Dan “The Fenom” Fenton.

First Period: The Fenom Reads from His Favorite Book

WHL 1–0 (11:25) — Faceoff in the Whalers’ end? No problem. Tuck fired a puck into the slot, where Scotty “Too Hotty” Christian touched it to Ben Rouillard. Fenton smelled opportunity, flew the zone, and Rouillard hit him in stride at the far blue. Fake shot, backhand, bar-dowski. Cline looked skyward, reconsidered astrology.

WHL 2–0 (07:50)
— Another defensive-zone draw for the Whalers somehow becomes a Fenton break. Rookie “Lucky” Logan Caffrey won the wall battle, Fenton scooped, slalomed laterally, turned the Tuck winger into a yard sale, cut to his forehand and slipped it 5-holio. Reports indicate Cline muttered something in Greek that may translate to “I hate this riddle.”

Tuck’s best looks belonged to Kyle “Not Bill” Lockwood, who ripped one into Condon’s chest logo and forced a late blocker flash that rattled the glass and three Whaler parents.

End 1: Whalers 2 – Tuck 0 • Shots: WHL 14, TCK 7

Second Period: Triangle Passing, Harpoons, and a Net-Front Ballet

The kids were alright: Caffrey, Blaine “Magic Man” Gour, and Cavan “Spider Legs” Benjamin put on mini passing clinics, while Lochlan “The Lochmonster” Park stomped out rushes like he was paid by the breakup.

WHL 3–0 (06:43)
— Textbook transition. Fenton stripped a Tuckie at the stripe, slid it to Dan “V-Card” VeNard. Two-on-none with Rouillard ensued: VeNard > Rouillard > VeNard > Rouillard. Three passes in three seconds, and Rouillard deposited over Cline’s outstretched pad. The bench collectively yelled “Weeeee!” like a rollercoaster of sadness for Tuck.

End 2: Whalers 3 – Tuck 0 • Shots: WHL 21, TCK 11

Third Period: Condon Nation & Moral Victories

Maclean “Full Metal” Lalor picked Fenton and went end-to-end, floating a nasty backhand high… except Jered Condon had the geometry degree and the angle chart. No soup.

Benjamin had two Grade-A’s: first a high-slot drop from Gour that Cline swallowed with the paddle; later a one-timer from Park that was labeled five-hole until Cline slammed the door like a dad in February. Some say the scouting report read “Cline: Gaping 5-hole.” Others say Benjamin can’t lift it. We say: goalie won the duel.

Tuck’s last push featured a spicy shot-pass from David “The Good” Husband to Adam “Big Mac” Macsata for a tip and two whacks. Condon, acting as a giant crease prophylactic(aka The Net Condom), prevented all forms of penetration on his hole....I mean Goal. Net sealed. Feelings hurt.

Final: Whalers 3 – Tuck 0 • Shots: WHL 30, TCK 18

Three Stars

  1.  Dan Fenton — 2G, 1A. Solved “Showtime” twice and authored the third.
  2.  Jered Condon — 18-save shutout; read everything, returned nothing.
  3.  Ben Rouillard — 1G, 1A and the breakout engine all night.

Quotes We May or May Not Have Heard

“I respect Cline. He’s great at stopping shots he can see. So I made sure he couldn’t see them.” — Dan Fenton
“Angles, baby.” — Jered Condon, casually alphabetizing rebounds
“We’re rebuilding. Step one: lose 3–0 with dignity.” — a philosophical member of Tuck

Records: Whalers 3–0–0 • Tuck 0–2–1

Next week: Whalers — BYE • Tuck — 9:20 PM vs Gamblers (1–1–0)
