Lumberjacks Chop Down Tuck

Lumberjacks 6, Tuck 2 — The Geritol Game: Lockwood’s Debut Meets DeLuca’s Destruction

October 22, 2025 • 9:20 PM • Wendell A. Barwood Arena (WRJ)

Tuck @ Lumberjacks

The nightcap at WABA featured one of the most entertaining age-gap showdowns in UVHL history — the Lumberjacks (collective AARP members) versus Tuck (the Business School babies). In net for Tuck was legend and fossil Bill “Lockdown” Lockwood, making his UVHL debut at a spry 58 years old — born back when gas was 35 cents a gallon, disco wasn’t ironic, and goalie masks were optional. Lockwood became the oldest goalie in the league by a margin of fifteen years, edging out Jered Condon.

The Lumberjacks were licking their wounds after getting out-hustled and out-skated in a 6–1 beatdown by the Whalers the week before, while Tuck came in grumpy after a tie with the Mustangs — and we all know there are no ties in Men’s League!

The Game

The game started faster than Lockwood’s metabolism slowed. Rookie Carter “Rookie Sensation” Auch stormed down the near boards just 67 seconds in and snuck a shot past Lockwood from a bad angle. Some say Lockwood missed it because he hadn’t yet finished his Ensure; others claim he was still adjusting the bifocals in his mask. Either way, it was 1–0 Jacks.

Moments later, Nathan “Cool Hand” DeLuca exploded up the far boards on a long breakout pass and embarrassed Lockwood with a silky backhand-forehand switch before tucking it home. McCormick made a big save on the next rush from Tuck’s Max Plonsker, who nearly scored if not for Luke “The Spiceman” McCormick’s oven-mitt glove.

On a Tuck powerplay, Kyle Lockwood found himself in “Gretzky’s Office” and sent it out front to David “Hubby” Husband who slid one through the five-hole. Jay “The Zamboni” Zanleoni was in the slot, but rumor has it he owed Hubby a favor and/or money and decided to let Hubby score.

Zanleoni later got a breakaway of his own, and mysteriously fired it directly into the “Tuck” logo on Lockwood...again, rumors about Zanleoni gambling at Tuck frat houses has emerged with him owing some future CEO's money and favors.  Auch had another golden chance at the buzzer but was denied when Lockwood briefly woke up from his nap to make the save.

The Middle Mayhem

DeLuca opened the second with another clinic, taking a gorgeous cross-ice pass from Jake “The Snake” Charles, cutting inside, and snapping it top cheese — bar down, mozzarella-melt level accuracy.

Kyle Lockwood pulled Tuck back to within one on a nice give-and-go from Husband before beating McCormick top shelf, blocker side.

DeLuca made sure no one forgot his name, burying another slick feed from Andrew Kimbell — top shelf, where mama keeps the lube. The goal horn operator reportedly needed a wrist brace by the end of the period.

Rookie Carter Auch struck again, finishing off a perfect rush that started with a Zanleoni faceoff win and a cross-ice missile from Pierce. Auch collected off the boards, leaned into his defender, and slid a smooth 5-holio past Lockwood, who at this point resembled a man trying to catch butterflies with a fishing net.  That was Pierce's 3rd apple(assist) of the game, igniting chants from the crowd "How you like them Apples?!?!?"  Pierce was seen watching Good Will Hunting on his phonea after the game as he is too young to know the reference of the Matt Damon classic.

To seal the deal, DeLuca put the exclamation point on his night — a filthy backhand roof job off a feed from Auch, lifting it over Lockwood’s glove and into orbit. McCormick held firm down the stretch, and the Jacks rolled to a dominant 6–2 win.

Game Notes

  • Nate DeLuca was unstoppable — 4 goals, 1 postgame mic drop.
  • Dillan Pierce was a defensive rock with 3 helpers. Harvard analysts confirmed: elite apple output.
  • Carter Auch scored twice and looked like a future all-star. His line with DeLuca clicked instantly.
  • Kaleigh Donnelly made her UVHL debut for Tuck after a stellar career at Boston University, showing smooth hands and D1-level vision — though admitted, “It’s been a few years since I’ve battled guys who yell ‘wheel!’ every shift.”
  • Bill Lockwood finished with 28 saves, and at least 5 shots directly to the face. When asked if it was age discrimination, Lockwood replied, “At my age, every bruise is a souvenir.”
  • Postgame, Bill was overheard saying: “I may be 58, but I’ve still got one good hip.” The league trainer quickly disagreed.

Final

Lumberjacks 6 — DeLuca (4), Auch (2) · Tuck 2 — Husband, K. Lockwood

  • Shots: Lumberjacks 34, Tuck 29
  • Goalies: McCormick (LMJ) 27/29, .931; Lockwood (TCK) 28/34, .824

Three Stars

  1. ? Nathan DeLuca — 4 goals, 4 reasons for Tuck to start therapy.
  2. ?? Dillan Pierce — 3 assists, defensive clinic, delivered apples and wisdom.
  3. ??? Luke McCormick — 29 saves, calm, composed, occasionally spicy.

The Lumberjacks bounced back in vintage form, turning back the clock (and Lockwood) for a decisive 6–2 win. Rumor has it Lockwood and Kyle will renew their Costco membership before the rematch — buy one save, get one free. Circle November 19th on your calendars, and maybe bring Bill a heating pad.
