Gamblers Dominate Nordiques 10-2
For the second time this season the Gamblers completely throttled the Nordiques. The first time was on November 3rd as the Gamblers put up a baker's dozen in a 13-1 win. Tonight was "slightly" better as the Nordiques kept the Gamblers to just 10 goals while doubling their offensive output from their first meeting.
The score isn't indicative of how the beginning of this game went. Through the first 26 minutes of this game the Gamblers only had a 3-1 lead and the Nordiques were playing a very strong defensive game. That all changed with 3:55 left in the 2nd period when the Nordiques finally tired out and let up 3 goals in 2:34 to close out the period down by 5 goals.
Max Woods & Alex Dodds were on fire in the first 2 periods as they combined for for 3 goals and 2 assists. Both players were wearing #20, so we are not quite sure who had the goals and assists. So we will call them Alex Woods.
Alex Woods started the scoring on the first shift of the game from Ben Peters and followed up with another, unassisted, at 12:06. The Nordiques bounced back at 8:13 with a nice goal from Cole Hunter to cut the deficit to 1 goal but Ben Peters took a pass from Alex Woods and converted with 3:23 left in the first to put his team up 3-1.
The second period was a chess match with some solid goaltending from both Ryan Van Schoik & Colin Farr. The Gamblers finally broke through and broke the game open with 3:55 to play in the 2nd. They piled 3 goals onto their total on goals from Topo LaCroix, Matty "The Milkman" Marrazzo and Alex Woods. After 2 periods the Gamblers led 6-1 with Ryan Van Schoik making 10 saves and Colin Farr stopping 13.
The Nordiques struck first in the 3rd period on a sweet snapper from Peter Scalia as he picked up a loose puck in the high slot and went bar down over Van Schoick's shoulder. That was as good as it was going to get as the Gamblers tacked on 4 more in the final period, Alex Woods tacked on 2 more with Ryan LaCroix & Ryan Bergeron each getting their first of the game.
In typical Gamblers fashion they continued to press even though they were up by 8 goals with a few minutes to play. One Nordique noticed that the Gamblers were still cherry picking, looking to add insult to injury...adding to their lore that does not make them a well liked team.
Gamblers were clearly the better team and despite a good effort early on by the Nords, they proved why they are a juggernaut in the UVHL.
