Storm Kings vs. Boston Bruins Alumni

Union Arena, Saturday March 4th at 4:00 PM Great fun was had by all in charity game. Before the puck was dropped a banner was raised for the Girls U-14 State Championship team. Nice work young ladies! This year's Bruins Alumni game was a close contest. The Bruins were the first to get on the board just 0:23 seconds into the game. With Bob Sweeney sneaking a shot past King's goalie Dan French. The Storm Kings struck shortly there after with a hard wrister from Ryan Sinclair Both teams traded chances and goals until the Bruins pulled ahead 5-3. A last minute flurry was thwarted by Frenchy with 4 or 5 saves in a row ending the first half down by two. The second 25:00 half started off all Kings with 3 unanswered goals two from Gary Hunter and one from Will Meyer. The Bruins fought back as Bob Sweeny ripped a shot over John Turner after a giveaway in the high slot. The Kingers then filled the net two more times with Sean Coakly and Will Meyer both beating local legend Greg Hadley. Nick O'Brien was then whistled for the only penalty of the game as he tripped a streaking Bruin, Jeff Norton. With the Kingers short-handed, defensen Drew Crapser was pressured to make a high clear off of the glass. The puck hit a stantion and unfortunately deflected into Bruins Alumni favorite Terry O'Reily. O'Reily left the game to receive 10 stitches and a long ride back to Boston. Sorry Terry. The Bruins battled back to tie the game with two breakaway goals. One from John Carter and a beauty from hall-of-famer Brad Park. Kelly also donned the Bruins black along with UVHLers Mark Weglarz, and Rob Pelletier and Off the Green owner Rich Lucas. The Bruins eventually pulled ahead for good with Bob Sweeny scoring two more. Sweeny was the game MVP with 5 goals. The final tally was Bruins 11, Storm Kings 9. The event was a great success. The Kings sold 28 pages of ads and raised more than the innaugural event.
