Tuck singing the Blues after 4-3 loss.

The opening game for week 3 was a fantastic display of skill and speed between a possible Whalen Cup matchup in February.   Tuck’s skill and fitness was on full display, but the best player on the ice was Labatt’s net protector, Jon “Showtime” Hall.  Hall register 50 saves on 53 shots…no joke, this reporter actually counted. Hall stopped several point blank chances,  back-door passes and odd-man rushes.   Hall was like a giant extra thick net condom, denying Tuck any pleasure and feel.

Hall was helped by a solid defensive effort and a great night by forward Tim McAuliffe who potted a pair of goals and a helper.  McAuliffe’s first goal was a beauty of a shorthanded breakaway.   Both Hall & McAuliffe ae nominated for Player of the Week, so make sure you put your votes in.  Blues fans, that’s a tough Sophie’s choice.

Tuck entered week 3 with a 2-0-0 record and looked unstoppable, and despite the outcome, they still dominated large portions of this game.  Labatt matched Tuck’s skill with intensity and team play, keeping Tuck to the outside most of the night.

GAME NOTES:
FIRST PERIOD
1-0 - Blues - Materazzo gets a nice cross-ice pass from Murray and walks down the near boards, firing a shot short side from a bad angle onto Kelley, one that I’m sure he wants back.

1-1 - Tuck - PP Goal - George Clark makes a nice rush up the near boards, cutting back at the hashmarks and chipping a pass to Sam Gray, who explodes to the high slot and beats Jonny Hall low glove side with a twisted wrister.

END OF THE FIRST PERIOD:  Tied 1-1.  SHOTS: Blues 7, Tuck 11

2-1 - Blues - Shorthanded goal.  A beautiful save by Hall on a short breakaway saw Tyler White spring Tim McAuliffe for a breakaway, beating Kelley glove side

WOW!  Tuck had 22 shots in the 2nd. Jon Hall was outstanding

END OF THE SECOND PERIOD:  Blues lead 2-1.  SHOTS: Blues 19, Tuck 33

Beginning of the 3rd Period was mostly played in the neutral zone.  Lots of movement, turnovers and back and forth.

3-1 - Blues - Powerplay goal.  It took only 5 seconds into the power play.  McAuliffe wins the draw back to Tyler White at the near point.  White quickly moves the puck to Colin Clark at the far face-off dot for a one-timer that beat Kelley right along the ice.

3-2 - Tuck - Nasty goal by Stickel how picks a puck up a puck in the neutral zone and enters the Blue’s zone down the far side.  Stickel cut across the tops of the circles to his forehand and as he was getting bumped and pushed off balance by the Blue’s defender, he was able to whip the puck far side on Hall.

4-2 - Blues - Point shot from Ray Sprague that doesn’t get to the net.  TJ Moran tips it to McAuliffe who beats Kelley low glove side as Kelley was sliding to his left.

PENALTY:  Brian Smith - Roughing - with 3:37 to play.  Total domination by Tuck, but the Blues were doing everything they could to stop them.  Diving for pucks, blocking shots and Jon Hall was an absolute monster.  Big and aggressive.  Turning away 4-5 solid scoring opportunities by Tuck.

4-3 - Tuck -  Shortly after the Smith Penalty O’Neil found Cassidy back door for a one timer.  Gorgeous look, gorgeous finish.

FINAL:  Labatt Blues win 4-3.  SHOTS: Tuck 53, Blues 30.
