In the first game of the 2015 quarterfinal game we had the 3rd seed Gamblers hosting the 6th seed Whalers. As predicted in the pre-game write up the Whalers would show up with a full squad and they were ready to play as did the Gamblers who had 3 full lines tonight. Both teams came out hungry and looking for the game"s first goal, it didn"t take long for the Gamblers to get on the scoreboard first as Jason Young picked a Whaler breakout pass and fired the puck past Kenny Lailler to give the Gamblers a 1-0 lead with 12:51 remaining in the period. Even though the Whalers gave up an early goal they kept playing hard as they were able to tie the game at 5:05 when the Whalers broke into the Gamblers zone 3 on 2, the Whalers then executed the triangle perfectly as Wood Redpath was left alone up top and fired a hard slapper past Ryan Van Schoick to tie the game at one. As the period begin to wind down the Gamblers were able to grab the lead back on a Cody Dodds shot from the point that be Lallier high blocker side with 2:46 left in the period. The period would end with the Gamblers up 2-1 and both goalies were playing well as Lallier had 12 saves and RVS had 8.

In the second period both teams came out just as hungry as they did in the first as both teams were looking to gain momentum in the game. The Whalers were able to tie the game at 2 when Woody Redpath scored his second of the night as he was set up in the slot from line mates Scotty Shaw and James Kerrigan. The scored would remain tied at 2 as the Whalers missed two chances to capitalize on the power play as the Gamblers took two penalties in a row. With 3:05 left in the period the Gamblers Ian Gill scored from the slot as he was set up by line mate Jason Young. With the Gamblers being up 3-2 they didn"t let up as they pushed to gain the games momentum. The Gamblers Max Woods would put the Gamblers up 4-2 with just 16 seconds left in the period as he was set up backdoor by the LaCroix brothers (Topo, Goose). The Gambers were able to out shoot the Whalers this period as the Whalers Lallier had 10 saves and the Gamblers RVS had 5.

With the Gamblers being up 4-2 they continued to push for the games next goal as they tested Lallier early and often, fortunately for the Whalers Lallier was on tonight turning always all the shots early in the period. The Whalers were pushing back but the Gamblers were playing solid team defense and not letting them get many chances. With 4:02 left in the period the Whalers James Kerrigan was able to tuck one past the Gamblers goalie RVS to pull the Whalers within one goal (4-3). Although the Gamblers gave up a late goal they were able to fend off the fury of shots that the Whalers put on them as they pulled their goalie to play 6 on 5 for the last 1:45. The Whalers were able to sustain the Gamblers zone for the first 50 seconds but the Gamblers Gary Smith blocked a shot from the Whalers defense. The puck then landed in front of Gamblers forward Max Woods who took a shot from his own end to put the icing on the cake with 45 seconds left in the game. The Gamblers would win the game 5-3 and move on to the semifinals to play the 2nd seed Tuck next week.
