In the first game of the night we have the Whalers hosting the Lumberjacks. The Whalers come into this week after a hard fought shoot out loss to the Gamblers and the Jacks come into this week after a 7-2 throttling by Tuck. Both started out of the gate playing back and forth hockey feeling one another out. The Jacks opened up the scoring at 7:18 when Jordan McGee set up line mate Sean Murphy who was sitting alone in the slot; he beat Lallier with a low hard shot. This was the only goal of the first period as both goalies played well, Lallier finished the first period with 13 saves and Ryan Libby of the Jacks with 15 saves.

The second period started out slow like the first but this time the Whalers would score first. Woody Redpath was able to pick the puck off of one of the Jacks wingers as he was trying to break out of the Jacks zone. Redpath then curled with the puck towards the goal and fired a shot that produced a rebound, James Kerrigan was there to knock it home and tie the score. With the score tied at one the Jacks got the games next goal at 7:06 as Jordan McGee blocked a shot in the Jacks end, skated out to the loose puck and went in on a breakaway against Lallier. McGee skated down with the puck and let a shot go low on the ice that beat Lallier to put the Jacks up 2-1. The Whalers didn"t take long to answer back as Scotty Shaw tied the game at two with 5:39 left in the period. The Whalers then took the lead with 4:29 left in the period when Sam Bailey beat Libby backdoor on a 2 on 1 play to put the Whalers up 3-2. The Jacks would get a power play late in the period that they were able to cash in on to tie the game. The goal was score by Tim Patten with 1:37 left in the period. Although the score was tied 3-3 both goalies played well and Libby stood out with 18 saves in the period to keep his team in the game.

In the third period both teams were searching for the games next goal as it would most likely decide the game. It wasn"t until 6:14 left in the period when Sean Murphy would put the Jacks up 4-3 and then just 14 seconds later he scored again to put the Jacks up by two in 14 seconds. The Jacks didn"t take their foot off the gas pedal there as Jordy McGee scored with 5:30 left in the period to put the Jacks up 6-3. The Jacks would add one more goal from Tim Patten to seal the win. As in the first two periods Libby played well in net again and made 13 saves in the third with a game total of 46 saves. Libby was a big reason that the Jacks hung in this game and won it convincingly in the third period.
