The battle of the basement was the high scoring game of the night. The Whalers came out scoring the games first goal just 37 seconds into the first period. James Kerrigan got a nice pass from Woody Redpath to spring him up the boards where Kerrigan beat the defenseman and roofed the puck past Tazzi. The quick goal didn"t phase Ramuntos as they started to pepper Kenny Lallier and eventually got there first goal of the night at 6:51 from Matt Littler who was set up by Justin Lawrence. Littler then returned the favor to Lawrence at 3:50 in the first as Lawrence scored a PP goal to give Ramuntos there first lead of the night and they never looked back. Littler got his second of the night at 3:10 from Lawrence putting Ramuntos up 3-1 going into the second period.

The second period saw the Whalers pushing back but Tazzi made a big save just 3 minutes into the second on Woody to keep there lead at 3-1. Tao Smith opened the scoring at 7:44 in the second period as he received a nice pass in the slot and beat Kenny Lallier low glove side. 30 seconds later Dave Willis blocked a shot in the defensive end and raced in on a breakaway to be Lallier stick side. The Whalers pushed back with a goal of there own at 6:49 from Ryan Foss as he buried a nice pass from Tom Crapser. Ramuntos another goal from Willis (his second of the night) to close out the period with a commanding 6-2 lead.

In the final frame the Whalers came out swinging as Scotty Shaw scored just a minute and half into the period from Jason Rouillard to give the Whalers some hope. About two minutes later Littler and Lawrence once again erased all the hope as Littler got his third of the night for the hat trick! Lawrence had an assist on all 3 goals as he seemed to know exactly where Littler was all night, it was impressive to watch. The Whalers were able to get one more goal from Jon Stallsmith at the 5:44 mark of the period. Ramuntos had an answer one more time with 3:18 left in the game as Trevor Billings let a rocket go from the point after Sophie LeClerc and Terence Moran cycled the puck out of the corner to Billings.

Ramuntos proved they could be a force this year if they play every game like this. Once they got rolling watch out, with half of the team being new, they clearly had some chemistry going and it will be fun to watch them as the season progress. The Whalers on the other hand look like it will take some more time before they start to click but they have some potential
