Carpino's 4 Goals Lift Cardigan Past Tuck

A classic battle between Tuck and Cardigan took place last night when #3 Cardigan hosted #2 Tuck. Owen Carpino was the difference maker as he scored all 4 goals for Cardigan including the game winner with just 9 seconds left to play.

It was a physical and hard fought battle that started out on the wrong note. "Within the first 6 minutes of the game I thought it was going downhill really fast, but things cooled down as the game went on. I think it was just such a fast paced game with so many turn overs that there were a lot of collisions (accidental) that the person on the other side of the collision may have considered hostile but was not...these tended to go both ways" was Tuck captain Tyson Seely's take on the game.

There were no goals in the first period and Cardigan couldn't convert on the only powerplay of the period. Eric "The Rat" Rautiola scored his 11th of the season at 9:01 of the first to give Tuck a 1-0 lead from Jake "The Snake" Gartner. Carpino notched a natural hat-trick with 3 goals in under two minutes. Dave McCusker assisted on two and Graham Gauthier assisting on the other.

Rautiola notched his second of the game to close out the second period from Peter Mellen. Jeff "The Wasp" Wannop tied the game with 5:56 to play in the game from Mike Nowak and it looked as though this one was heading to a shootout when Tim LeRoy set up Carpino with 9 seconds to play.

"Losing with 9 seconds was tough" recalled Seely. "Tazzy played pretty incredible in net. Their whole team is just so damn fast and they move the puck so incredibly well. They may have what it takes to take it all this year."

It was a great game between two top tiered teams.
