Dead River Plays Whalers Tough, Lose 5-2

Dead River entered this game as a 6 goal under dog and a predicted score of 9-3...so a 5-2 loss is definitely a moral win for the Dead Riverians and their fans. Dead River did get some help by the return of Mark "Super Wedgie" Weglarz to the UVHL. In his return he scored a big goal and the other goal was scored by the Gambler's Ryan "The Boogeyman" Bergeron. Their defense was bolstered by Bergeron and Cody Dodds to the point where Dead River kept the high power Whalers off the scoresheet until the second period and were in a 3-2 game with 5 minutes left.

The Whalers have scored 108 goals this season which makes it even more impressive that Matty "The Eagle" Crowson and the Whalers were able to slow them down. It just delayed the inevitable as "Jumbo" Joe Gaudet eventually broke through with a trio of goals and an assist. Gaudet was helped out by the return of Dan McGee who had a pair of assists in his first game in the UVHL in over 2 years and despite saying that he was "aweful" still contributed and most importantly showed up at the pub after the bar.

Jay Zanleoni finally broke the game open with 4:52 to play after being hauled down on a breakaway and was awarded a penalty shot that he scored on Crowson. "Crowson was outstanding; probably turning Joe(Gaudet) away from point blank range 5-7 times. He was unreal and this could have easily been 12-2. DR was a better squad last night and have some young legs - they could be pretty decent next year if they can keep that nucleus together." recalled Zanleoni in his post-game interview done through the interwebs. Crowson's 43 saves were clutch, but Gaudet was the star of this game.
