Whalers Look For First Win Over Gamblers This Season

ODDS:	Gamblers By 2 Goals
OVER/UNDER:	12 Goals

The Gamblers have owned the Whalers this season by the tune of 3 wins to zero and out-scoring their counterparts 26-14. The first game of the season was the closest at 7-4, followed by a 10-5 barn burner and then a 9-5 defensive gem.

The Whalers have had issues with the Gambler's speed and depth, but are a much better team(if they show up), than the scores would suggest. The Whale is led by offensive stud "Jumbo" Joe Gaudet and his 51 points in 13 games. The Whalers have 3 of the top 6 offensive players in Gaudet, Scotty "Sugar" Shaw & Woody Redpath.

The Gamblers have historically had the top 3 scorers in the UVHL with Willy "Weeble" Meyer, Dan "The Danimal" Ammel and Matty "The Milkman" Marrazzo or the MAM line. This year the trio has had some issues producing at the same rate they did last year. Luckily their second line containing the LaCroix twins have helped fill the void. The aforementioned five Gambler's all sit in the top 13 in scoring even with Meyer missing the last 4 games due to a concussion.

This should be a great game to watch especially with the Whaler's netminder, Kenny "Oldtime Hockey" Lallier out of town and being replaced by Greg "Bin" Feiden. Feiden will need to be on his toes all night against the potent offense of the Gamblers.

If the Whalers play a perfect game, they will still lose by a pair...most likely not perfect...so we're looking at 7-5 best case scenario...9-5 otherwise.

Gamblers Ride 7 Goal 2nd Period to a 7-6 Win Over Whalers

Whalers were the heavy underdog going into this one and came out with a chip on their shoulders. They dominated a good portion of the first period as the Gamblers looked a bit flat and jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead before falling apart in the second. That 3 goal lead evaporated when the Gamblers scored 7 goals in under 7 minutes, including 4 goals in 72 seconds that was just a downright embarrassing 72 seconds for the Whalers.

The Whalers rolled a short bench with only 7 skaters and missing "Jumbo" Joe Gaudet and their goaltender Kenny "LaCataracts" Lallier. The Gamblers were still without their leader Willy "Mighty Mouse" Meyer who was knocked out with a concussion 5 weeks ago against this same Whalers team.

Matty "The Milkman" Marrazzo was spectacular, earning both a 1st Star of the game and a Player Of the Week nomination. Marrazzo delivered the milk with a quartet of goals including a natural hat trick on the same shift...really?!?! Yes, that really happened. The Gambler's also had a solid night from D-Man Ryan "The Boogeyman" Bergeron who added three assists in the win to match is solid defense.

The Whalers had a great night from Woody Redpath who scored a trio of goals and added a pair of assists in the loss. Redpath's silky smooth play earned him a 2nd Star of the game and Player Of the Week nomination as well.

WHL 1-0 - Tommy Crapser scored the first goal of the game from Gary "The Pearl Necklace" Laperle. Missed it, but I'm sure it was a shitty pass that Crapser made gold out of.

It was a crazy game from start to finish. Just when you thought the Whalers had this one in the bag. Then the Gamblers drop 7 unanswered goals in one period and this game was over as the Whalers looked lost, exhausted and done. Then the Whalers score the last three goals of the game and press all the way to the buzzer to try and tie the game.

WHL 2-0 - Sustained pressure from the Whalers saw the puck land on Woody Redpath's stick to the right of Van Schoik. Redpath fired a hard pass through the crease to someone waiting back door but the puck went off a Gambler defenseman's stick into the empty net. A little luck was involved.

WHL 3-0 - Ryan "The Boogeyman" Bergeron tried making an ill-conceived d2d pass at the Whaler's blueline. Apparently Bergeron telegraphed the pass because Redpath picked it off and went in all alone on Van Schoik, dangle-nation, forehand to back hand to forehand back to the backhand and up and over Van Schoik.

GMB 3-1 - The tides have turned...Gamblers are building steam, Whalers look tired. Point to Point pass saw Cody "The Canon" Dodds unleash hell at Feiden. The blast through a screen beat him clean.

GMB 3-2 -

GMB 3-3 - Nice drop pass from Ammel to Marrazzo at the tops of the circles. Marrazzo picks high glove side.

GMB 4-3 - Nice breakout pass from The Boogeyman to Marrazzo who goes end to end and beats Feiden 5-hole.

GMB 5-3 - Gattie feeds Ammel down low. Ammel takes a quick snapper that hits the far post and Marrazzo jams it home.

GMB 6-3 - Gattie makes ANOTHER great pass to Ammel in the high slot. Ammel beats Feiden 5-hole.

GMB 7-3 - Bergy makes another nice breakout pass to Marrazzo who streaks up the far boards and beats Feiden glove side with a quick shot from the far faceoff dot.

WHL 7-4 - Laperle gets a loose rebound in tight and jams it home...garbage goal, that took no skill.

WHL 7-5 - Power Play goal, Zanleoni makes a nice pass to Redpath splitting the defense, Van Schoik two pad stacks, the rebound comes back out to Zanleoni who burries it.

WHL 7-6 - Short Handed Goal. Redpath gets hounded by Malcolm who was lacrosse style slashing him as he traversed the slot horizontally with the puck. Van Schoik was down and out and Redpath threw the puck up and over him.

NOTE: With 4:52 remaining in the game and down by a goal, Dillon Pierce gets the puck in the crease and roofs teh puck over Van Schoik who was down after making a save...the only problem is he rang the cross bar and to make things worse the sound of Eddie the ref screaming "NOOOOOOOOO" echoed through Woodstock Vermont adding insult to injury.

NOTE: With 58 seconds left the Whalers took a timeout and pulled their goalie. They laughed and frolicked at the bench as they waited to resume the game.

That is the only way to account for this.
