The Whalers have owned the Dead River Boys so far this season with a 6-3 win in October followed by an 11-1 thrashing in December. Dead River played their best game of the year in a 6-5 loss to Cardigan last week where they went down 3-0, scored five straight goals in the second period only to be shutout 3-0 in the final period.

Dead River finally got their first win of the season 2 weeks ago with a Tuck forfeit and now sit at 1-11-0. The Whalers are 5-7-0 but are riding a four game losing streak since last beating Dead River 11-0, but were missing All-Star "Jumbo" Joe Gaudet for 2 of those games.

Gaudet leads the league with a gaudy 3.86 points per game and is tied for the lead in assists with 15. The Whalers have 3 players in the top 8 in scoring with Gaudet, Scotty "Sugar" Shaw(10-15-25 in 10 GP) and Jay "The Zamboni" Zanleoni (9-13-22 in 12 GP).

Dead River only has 1 player in the top 30 in scoring, Trevor Bayliss (3-3-6 in 7 GP).

The Whalers should pound Dead River 9-4.

Whalers Thump Dead River

Dead River took another thumping today at the hands of the Whalers. Dead River was completely overmatched tonight in their own end of the ice. Horrific defensive zone coverage led to a vast majority of their goals allowed.

The Whalers on the other hand did pretty much everything right. Even without their stud goaltender Kenny "The Old One" Lallier and utilizing the services of nomadic net-protector Paul "Ozzie" Osgood. Osgood made 23 saves in the win but the Whalers kept Dead River to the perimeter most of the night. His counterpart, Matty "The Eagle" Crowson was much busier, stopping 39 of 50 shots but as previously mentioned he was left out to dry on numerous occassions.

"Jumbo" Joe Gaudet(3g, 2a) & Scotty "Sugar" Shaw(3g, 3a) were down right awesome and defensemen Kirt "Big" Johnson & Jason Rouillard both contributed 3 assists to their stellar defensive play.

WHL 1-0 : D to D then pass down to Gaudet all alone at the top of the crease. Shimy Shake on Crowson and upstairs glove side.

WHL 2-0 : Defenseman to Gaudet to Shaw all alone in front. Crowson makes first save, Shaw throws home rebound

DR 2-1 : Puck down low to 21 who does a trick shot between his legs, off the post to Johnson in teh crease. Johnson fights off a defender and puts the puck in.

WHL 3-1 : Laperle chips it to Pierce in their own zone, Pierce kicks the puck out of his feet going full speed, beats the defender at Dead River's blue line and fires a shot off the post and inblocker side from the hashmarks.

WHL 4-1 : Pierce tips a shot from Redpath after he carries it from center ice, traverses the Whaler's blue line and finds Pierce in front for the tip.

NOTE: Crowson makes a huge save on Gaudet with 1:25 to play.

WHL 5-1 : Shaw gets a pass in front and redirects it past Crowson

WHL 6-1 : Johnson makes a great pass to Redpath backdoor

NOTE : HORRIBLE DEFENSIVE COVERAGE for Dead River. Almost every goal has occured with guys left alone at the top of teh crease.

DR 6-2 : Bayliss gets on the board with a trickler 5-holio on Osgood.

WHL 7-2 : Laperle jams home a rebound off of a Pierce shot.

WHL 8-2 : Pierce tips in a point shot from Johnson. Again, another guy left all alone in the slot.

NOTE : Slow 3rd period as the shots are only 5-2 in favor of Dead River

WHL 9-2 : 2 on 1, Shaw feeds Gaudet crashing the crease, pulls puck to his backhand and roofs it over Crowson's pad

WHL 10-2 : Redpath gets a pass from Shaw at the tops of the circles, lazer show snapper high glove.

DR 10-3: Breakaway, nasty move forehand to backhand to forehand.
