Condon Anchors Another Gambler Win: 6-2 over the Brewers

Journeyman goaltender Jeremy "B League Superstar" Seidling proved that he could handle the speed and talent of the UVHL with his first UVie game since March of 2007. Seidling came out of the gate early, shutting down the Gamblers on numerous quality scoring chances to keep the Brewers in it, only to see his team fall apart late as they took some offensive chances, letting up a pair of goals in the last 1:21.

At the opposite end of the ice was Gambler's puck-lovin' goalie Jered "The Head" Condon who leads all netminders with a ridiculous 2.33 GAA and 5 wins. Condon was stellar again, turning away 32 of 34 shots on his way to the win.

The 'Blers top line, the MMA line, put in 4 of the 6 goals and had a combined 9 points on the night. "They were outstanding again..." said a Brewer's defenseman. "They must sleep in the same bed, and shower together or something. It's like they know each other inside and out...if you know what I mean." That intimate linemate knowledge saw Willy "Weeble" Meyer hit Matty "The Milkman" Marrazzo at 11:07 for the game's first goal.

The second line looked pretty good for the Gamblers tonight as well, with Evan "Almighty" Seely, Allison "Mistress Misconduct" Malcolm & Topo "The Bottom" LaCroix adding the other two goals. The second line made it 2-0 with 6:16 to play after a nice exchange between LaCroix & Malcolm had the Brewers chasing Malcolm behind the goal line. Allison made a quick move to the corner before finding Seely all alone in front. There was nothing Seidling could do on that one.

Billy "The Kid" Fletcher cut the deficit to 1 goal just 24 seconds later with a shorthanded goal off of a pass from Aaron "Mandingo" Mancuso.

Dan "The Danimal" Ammel fired a laser past Seidling in the last minute of the first period, from who else, but BFFs Meyer and Marrazzo to regain the 2 goal lead heading into the second frame.

END OF THE FIRST: Gamblers 3, Brewers 1

A little confusion by a rookie referee in the second period, temporarily had the Gamblers going shorthanded as one of their players was clearly boarded, but the call was mixed up. After sorting things out and assessing the boarding penalty to the Brewer's Mancuso, the game continued and the Brewer's eventually notted their second shorthanded goal of the period, unassisted by Chris Johnson.

The Brewers were again in the box a couple of minutes later with a Brian Smith penalty for Roughing, but couldn't convert on their 3rd shorty of the night, but just as the penalty expired, The Danimal scored his second of the night and 8th of the season from Marc "The Narc" Gattie. The goal came on a delayed penalty to the Brewer's Dan "Chubby Hubby" Charette as he hooked Marrazzo circling behind the net. Marrazzo maintained control before hitting Gattie at the point who in turn found Ammel down low.

END OF THE SECOND: Gamblers 4, Brewers 2

The Brewers had played a very talented Gamblers squad tough through the first 30 minutes of this game, and with the stellar play of fill-in goalie, Jeremy Seidling, continued to push the boundaries of their game, stretching the ice out, floating a forward to keep the Gambler's defensemen out of the play and off kilter. Seidling & Condon battled for the first 13 minutes of the third, both turning away good scoring opportunities, but down by 2 goals with 2 minutes to play the Brewers started to take chances that they paid for with a pair of Gambler goals in the last 1:21. Seely scored his second of the game and 7th of the season from Malcolm, and Meyer got his league leading 14th of the season with 56 seconds to play and keeping his goal scoring streak to ALL SEVEN GAMES THIS SEASON.

END OF REGULATION: Gamblers 6, Brewers 2

It was a valiant effort from the Brewers, who have been known to throw defensive awareness right out the window this year. The Gamblers seemed frustrated at times by Seidling and the unconventional style of play from the Brew Crew. Regardless, the top ranked Gamblers won again...and are still the team to beat in the UVHL.
