Gambling on the Gamblers is a GOOD IDEA

A game between the league leading Gamblers(8-2-1) facing off against perennial basement dwelling Whalers (3-7-1) seemed and looked like it should have been another blowout win in favor of the Gamblers. But records are deceiving when you actually sit down and watch the feisty Whalers play. They play harder than anyone in the league and wreak havoc all over the ice, but are only one line deep in the scoring department and tend to self destruct late in the game. Tonight was no different for the Whalers. Both teams were using subs for goaltenders as the Whale Tale had rookie sensation "Tiny" Timmy Chapp in net. Chapp was filling in for Kenny "Le Buisquit" Lallier who was called up to the O.L.D.M.A.N.H.L earlier today. One Whaler was quoted as saying "Pound for Pound, he's the best goaltender in the Northeast." It's a great compliment but not really saying much about a guy who only weighs 47 lbs. In net for the Gamblers was Johnny "Temper Tantrum" Turner who was spectacular again, turning away 31 flip shots from the Whalers. Chapp turned away 28 saves of his own in his first game in the UVHL.

The Gamblers top line was on FIRE again, as Willy "Weeble Wobble" Meyer scored 4 of their 6 goals on the night, but hte most impressive player out there must have been Jason Young "Blood" who didn't actually fall down once tonight. The Whaler's had some support from their favorite wordsmith, Joey "The Mute" Hayes who scored 3 of the Whalers 4 goals. The Whalers did have some other guys show up.....like Davey "The Fizz" Fitz, who was taking the night off from beating his inmates at the local women's prison. Fitsy added zero goals and zero assists on the night, but damn he is enjoyable to watch play with that goofy grin of his.

The Gamblers came out to play flying, outshooting the Whalers 7-1 in the first couple of minutes, powered by Whalers turnover after turnover. But then the top line from the Whaler's(Hayes-Fitts-Oliver) jumped on the ice and peppered Turner with 6 consecutive shots. The play continued, but the ice was always tilting towards the Whalers end until Turner left a HORRIFIC rebound in the slot when Sean Clauson fired a shot from the corner. Joey Hayes jumped on the rebound and fired two quick shots on net before the puck bounced up and over Turner's sweaty & rotund body and into the net with only 12 seconds to play.

END OF THE FIRST: Gamblers 0, Whalers 1
SAVES: Turner(GMB) 10, Chapp(WHL) 15

The Gamblers rebounded early in the 2nd period when Meyer beat "Tiny" Time with two quick snapshots up over the glove just 20 seconds apart. Both goals were assisted by Matty "The Milkman" Marrazzo and may have exposed a weakness in Chappy's armor and came at 13:51 & 13:31. The Gamblers added another goal at 8:03 after the Whaler's Todd "Liquid Nails" Nalette let go a little girl howitzer with 8:28 to play, but the puck quickly turned up ice. "Rolls" Royce Lawrence did a Savardian at the Whaler's blue line, losing the puck in the process but going right to his team mate, Tyson "Chicken Thighs" Seely. Seeley took a couple quick strides and let a hard wrister fly up and over the tiny goaltender who jumped 18 inches in the air, but couldn't reach the puck as it entered the net to give the Gamblers a comfortable 3-1 lead. That was the last goal of the 2nd period,

END OF THE SECOND: Gamblers 3, Whalers 1
SAVES: Turner(GMB) 18, Chapp(WHL) 21

The 3rd period was actually one of the best of the year for the Whalers as they outscored the Gamblers 3-2, well it was actually 3-3 but the Gamblers chipped in an empty netter with 1 second to play. They Whalers also outshot the GHamblers 15 to 10 en route to their 8th loss of the season. Starting off the 3rd was The Mute closing out his hat trick with goals at 13:48 and 8:34 to tie the game at 3 goals apiece. I don't have anything clever or even knowledgeable about the goals seeing as Greg "Infection" Hadley wasn't bright enough to know how to use the voice recorder for game notes. The Gamblers did jump ahead again as Jason Young slammed home a slapshot at 7:28, well it must have been a slapshot because he certainly doesn't know how to take a wrist shot. The Whalers tied it back up with 6:19 to play behind an unassisted goal from Liam "The Pesky Little Shit Covered Mosquito" Oliver. Meyer completed his hat trick with 3:26 to go on an assist from Joey "New Kid On the Block" McIntyre to take the lead for good before adding his 4th on the night and league leading 22nd goal with an empty netter at the buzzer.
