LeLallier outduels Condon for Whalers shootout victory

This was a good UVHL game. It was evenly matched, hard fought, and exciting! The only shitty thing were the 4 blatant penalties I had to call in the last 5 minutes of the game, but luckily that didn't make the difference in the end because it went to an exciting shootout! (I LOVE SHOOTOUTS!)

The Whalers showed up with the most players on the bench in recent memory for this UVHL franchise. Conspicuously absent once again was mini-star and co-captain Sean Casavant who has been rumored to have required surgical removal from a vagina... The gamblers were without 3 regulars, but made up with it by hard work and hustle to force a shootout. The Whalers struck first at 13:20 on a LeClair goal from the talented Todd Nalette. The Gamblers tied it at 12:18 as Royce Lawrence found the back of the net off a Tylson Seely pass. Nalette put his team back up at 9:49 from LeClair and Fitts, only to have Matt Marrazzo answer at 7:47 from captain Will Meyer. The Whalers then victimized Jered Condon in the Gamblers net with 2 more goals and an uncharacteristic 4 goal first period. LeClair added his 3rd point of the period at 5:41 scoring a goal from Kirt Johnson. Then at 4:34 it was former Hanover Midget Nick Hall putting it past Condon from #14 (unknown, Nalette listed twice as #12 and #14, and we all know he aint that fast). The first period left a stunned Gamblers squad down 4-2.

Penalized first were the Gamblers with Lawrence heading to the box at 10:02 for hooking. The Sperm Whalers kept going with their third unanswered goal at 8:37 of the second by #14 from Hall and Vernon to make it 5-2 and a commanding lead. However, UVHL superstar Will Meyer picked up his team on his broad shoulders once again scoring an unassisted goal at 3:30 to cut it back to a surmountable 2 goal lead with plenty of time left in the game. The Gamblers finished the second strong by scoring with 40 seconds left after Dan Ammel made a strong individual effort after gettig some help from Marrazzo on the goal to take it to a one goal lead on the PP with Chris Gogan in the box for hooking.

Marrazzo was penalized for a blatant trip on Nalette in the slot at 14:20, and he smiled as he went to the box saying "yeah, that was on obvious trip". The third period saw the Gamblers tie it up on yet another 4-on-4 superstar effort by Meyer at 4:13 with the Whalers Scott Leger in the box for bodychecking and the Gamblers Scott Fraser in the sin bin for holding. At 3:51 the Whalers took a penalty for hooking sending Sean Clauson to the box, but the Gamblers blew the PP by Marrazzo's hook on the puck carrier at 2:42. Fortunately the period ended 5-5 forcing a shootout.

The shootout was exhausting, end to end one shooter after another, goalies standing on their heads sending shooters back to the bench shaking their heads. Here is how it panned out:

G - Lawrence - miss
W - Nalette - miss
G - Marrazzo - miss
W- LeClair - miss
G - Meyer - miss
W - #14 - miss
G - Ammel - miss
W - Hall - miss
G - Seely - miss
W - Fitts - miss
G - Young - miss
W - Hayes - miss
G - Fraser - miss
W - Gogan - scooooores!

Lallier and Condon were absolutely solid on the shootout, and Gogan's goal just trickled in through Condon's pads.
