Cote shines in Tuck net to ensure victory in best UVHL game of year!

This was a goalie's duel plain and simple. Anik Cote officially reached superstar, no, superhuman status with her incredible game in the Tuck net! Both teams were pelting the opposition's goalie, and Pete Bartline was nothing short of fantastic in net for the Avs fending off Hunter and Turco for zero goals, but Cote was THE difference in this game. Insert whatever goalie cliche you like here: "she stood on her head", "she put on a goaltending clinic", "she was un-fucking believable", you pick, because it applies.

Tuck scored first at 8:32 when Peter Hanbury buried one from the slot past Bartline from Gary Hunter that Bartline wanted back, but it was too late adn the momentum had changed. The Avs were actually dominating early, although it was still close, and the first goal is important, and it was Tuck's. Dr. McSelfish, Nick Bayley (in case you didn't know who that was already, eh), scored to tie the game at 3:46 against Cote who had shut him down several times already, and assisting on the play were Mike Hickey and Dan Charette. Tuck re-gained momentum with a Mark Hanrahan goal just over a minute later at 2:25 of the first on an unassisted goal off a turnover in the Avs end by Al Sorrentino that beat Bartline to send the battling teams into the second period 2-1 Tuck.

The teams traded multiple scoring chances in this period, and penalties to Tuck's Ben Kennedy at 14:44 for interference, and to the Avs Chris Johnson at 4:34 for tripping, but no goals. Only great saves! Yaaaaahh! Players were going to their benches shaking their heads at the unbelievable goaltending at both ends, but particularly at Tuck's end, because Cote was en fuego, en feu, on frickin' fire!

In the third it got a little chippy for a while, and penalties led to power plays, that led to a 5-on-3, ya-da, ya-da, ya-da. Avs newcomer Chris Adams got called for cross checking at 13:35, then was joined by Tom Fallon in the Avs box at 12:59 for hooking to give Tuck a 5-on-3. Tuck capitalized on it by scoring at 12:42 on tho PP when Jamie Greenthal found the back of the net off of feeds from the dynamic duo of Turco and Hunter. This sent Johnson out of the box, but Tuck's second man advantage was negated at 11:38 by Gary Hunter, with a rare penalty that saw the teams switch to an Avs PP once Hunter spent three seconds in the box. The Avs could not solve Cote, not even after they had a 5-on-3 of their own once Brian Fleming held up Sean McCabe along the boards at 10:11 giving the Avs the 2-man advantage for 33 seconds. The score was 3-1 for Tuck, and Bayley made it 3-2 with 8:10 to go from Adams for another momentum shift in this close and tightly fought game! Tuck co-captain Pat Fox tipped in a Ryan Burkart slapper from the point with only 5:60 to go, and Bartline didn't have a chance, and Tuck re-gained a 1-goal lead just like that. Avs captain Mike Hickey sealed his team's fate with a high sticking penalty against Hunter in the corner at 1:18, and then Tuck got the insurance goal after only 16 seconds on the PP when Hanrahan noched his second of the game at 1:02 from Turco and Burkart. For personal reasons only, Christian Isaac pounced on a loose puck that squirted into the slot after Cote expected it to go elsewhere, and he buried the puck from Bayley and Charette into the half-open net with only 0:15 left to exorcise some demons and ensure he didn't need psychotherapy for green and white nightmares after getting shut down time after time by Cote all night.
